What, you didn't feel it yet? According to Sam Altman "we are now in the singularity", and he's super hyped, excited, whatever.

Other people just say it's a PR stunt for "invest more in my company" and the soon to happen IPO.

The question is... how much of this is him lying for hype, or is he just that fucking stupid or experiencing AI psychosis?

There are plenty of things that we can still improve upon in AI but there is of course no reason to think it's rocketing towards being a true "superintelligence" or if that's even possible.

I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, but I really don't see how LLM's have any hope of ever doing truly original mathematical proofs as Sam claims they soon will. The most they can maybe do in that respect is to just read existing literature to faster than humans can.

I know what you mean... I've often explained to friends who are more naive of computer science that computers of course can't do anything a human can't do on a fundamental level, it just does it FASTER. In regards to LLM's, it just fundamentally doesn't make sense that any kind of machine learning could cook up something that is truly original. The only way they can aid in research is to just very quickly notice things like how maybe some forgotten paper from 1953 contained something that may or may not be relevant to your current question. This IS often very useful, but is a very far cry from just doing original research.

Sorry, my eyes keep checking out this sterile AI layout of a room. Just two chairs on opposite sides of the room. TV trays by the fireplace with one setup BEHIND the floor lamp. The floor lamp with one bulb lit in the closeups and possibly unlit in the wide shots. Perfectly place can on each little table, the horrid looking and probably uncomfortable chairs. So much light from the ceiling and none really blowing out the light balance from the windows.
However, I've read enough of Magnus Robot Fighter 4000 AD to know how this ends. That's the good Magnus from the 60s not that meh one from the 90s.

This clown talks about wishes and not about anything realistic. He wants data centers that can build more data centers, not data centers that can design more powerful highly efficient and less power hungry data centers. Who would build these? Robots? We are hundreds of years away from independent robots capable of handling all the steps needed to build a building let alone a data center.

I call shenanigans. Heck his body language says he's unable to tell the truth about his company. He is often looking off camera down towards the ground as if reading from a teleprompter for this staged Q&A/interview. He just wants investors for his vaporware.

Years ago when I first heard about it, I'll admit, I liked the idea of "the singularity'. Like, the bare essential, one-or-two-line description of it. Uploading your mind to a virtual world - it sounds fantastic.

Unfortunately I started reading more about the people who came up with the idea, and what else they are proponents of, and that's when I checked the f out.

I agree, the idea of starting over sounds terrible to me. ....but I would love to having aging reversed and have a few other improvements.

This is of course contingent on the world not being destroyed like what will actually happen.
