I spent about 20 minutes typing out a reply to each quote notification and my phone died and I lost the post. Now I have to do it over so please excuse the sloppy formatting this website is very laggy on my phone.
I’m also going to edit, add to, and reformat this posts in the next 15 minutes or so, I know that’s bad form but sorry but I get the words out there and then realize how badly it reads.
So to the question of ‘Is it a furry thing?’ Maybe but I don’t usually have much in common with furries. Not a fan of RP. Most of my friends are not furries. It’s an age thing though. Everyone I interact with on SL and Discord are 18 to 32 with most being around 22 to 26.
Larger voices groups split off into smaller groups of about 5 to 7. This requires physical distancing which also lets the builds feel more alive instead of the entire population being in one part of the sim.
None of my friends use IRC and most wouldn’t know what it is. It’s a dumb luck I even know what’s it is. I’ve used it maybe 3 times over 12 years ago.
And yes I almost never look at local chat. Yes it’s probably very rude. But it’s just not why I’m there.
“I have a question, and I hate asking this one, but I think it is necessary for context. Are those communities you're a part of/the people you know, heavy with the "Autistic-spectrum furry" demographic?”
That’s an oddly specific question. My oddly specific answer is no. I don’t know many furries. As for autism, I wouldn’t have a clue. But maybe a few of them. Not the ones I mainly talk to. Nothing against autism but it’s hard for me to relate to and interact with people with difficulties. At least those my age. I know a guy in his 50’s with autism and he’s basically a internet father figure to me. A true sage.
“Question, what are your fingers busy doing? Coding? WASDing in some game?”
Yes. Or just surfing the internet, viewing people’s links or copying links to post in local chat. But usually scripting. That’s what keeps be coming back even after VRChat. That and talking to and checking in with and keeping in touch with the people who are still only in SL.
Random aside: it took about half an hour to read, reply, spellcheck and format this exchange. It would have all taken 3 minutes tops on voice.
(Oh and whoops, as of exactly today, my SL account is exactly 12 years old. Joined May 1 2007)
