From my admittedly barely-informed point of view, Netanyahu looks like a drunk outside a bar yelling at two or three big bouncers to "come at me."
His approach is appeasing to his far right supporters; but he's really fucking himself and his country over by alienating the foreign support they actually do need. Their only real ally now is the USA, and that's not certain to last at this rate.

Israel is expecting to be attacked by Iran and its proxies this weekend. To quote "Israel Heute":

Numerous reports in recent days indicate that we are facing a critical weekend.

I have compiled a list of news stories that anyone can use to piece together their scenario:

- The US has deployed at least 12 warships to the Middle East, including the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, amphibious combat units and more than 4,000 Marines and sailors.

- The IDF has cancelled leave for soldiers in combat units as part of preparations for a possible attack by Iran and Hezbollah.

- The Iranian Resistance Axis plans to meet soon with the Revolutionary Guards, the Quds Brigade and representatives of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Ansar Allah and the Popular Mobilization Forces.

- Anthony Blinken: “The Middle East is heading for escalation.”

- Israel's Northern District Fire and Rescue Commander calls for preparation for a complex event.

- Report in the US: A Hezbollah attack is set to begin tonight and will last at least 3 days of mourning for the Hezbollah Chief of Staff.

- The New York Times: "Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has given the green light for a direct attack on Israel."

- United Airlines has suspended all flights to Israel.

- Revolutionary Guards Commander Mohammad Bagheri: "Our reaction is inevitable - the Zionists will regret their actions."

- Iran is deploying the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system across the country.

- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the command center in the last hour and met with the commander, Major General Rafi Milo.

- Factories with hazardous materials in northern Israel received a closure order from the army.

- The British say they will defend Israel in the event of an attack by Iran.

- The Iranian army commander: "The Zionist regime will receive an answer for its crime."

- The British base in Cyprus and two other bases in the Middle East have been put on high alert.

- American reports: Jordan, in cooperation with the American and British forces, is preparing to deal with drones and missiles that could be fired at Israel.

- The Prime Minister after the situation assessment: "Israel is on high alert for any scenario - both in defense and in attack. We will impose a high price on any aggression against us from any direction."

Accorting to the New York Times Ismail Haniyeh was killed by an explosive device with remote detonator, smuggled into the guest house in Tehran already in June this year.

The name of the Mossad assassin was reported as "Amit Nakesh." This is a black joke by Mossad it seems, because it is a corruption of "hamitnakesh", which is Hebrew for "The Assassin."

More moderate and pragmatic Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was engaging in ceasefire negotiations on behalf of Hamas.

Sounds to me like Netanyahu wants an escalation. And anything but a ceasefire.

Blinken said the administration felt it was "close to a breakthrough" before the assassination in Tehran. Now a deal is needed more than ever, Blinken added.
[QUOTE"We urge all involved parties to refrain from perpetuating the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, to lower tensions and engage constructively towards de-escalation. No country or nation stands to gain from further escalation in the Middle East." ][/QUOTE]

Hostage-ceasefire deal talks stall over new Netanyahu demands, two Israeli officials say.

Israeli officials and families of hostages are concerned Netanyahu, who recently toughened his demands and presented new conditions for a hostage and ceasefire deal, sent the delegation only to create an appearance of negotiations to relieve some of the pressure from President Biden.

Hamas rejected Netanyahu's new conditions, which include forming an international mechanism to prevent weapons transfers from southern Gaza to the north. Israeli officials say this and other new demands are making a deal impossible.

Two Israeli officials confirmed the details of the report and said the director of Shin Bet confronted Netanyahu and told him that if he wants to back away from the Israeli proposal for a hostage and ceasefire deal, he should just say it.

Netanyahu replied by scolding the Israeli security and intelligence chiefs, calling them "weaklings" and accusing them of working for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar's interests and pressing him (Netanyahu) rather than pressing Hamas.

This is not good for the Wall Street Journal. Not good at all.

Journal still can’t confirm January story about UN agency for Palestinians
In January, The Wall Street Journal made an explosive claim: Quoting “intelligence reports,” the paper reported that not only had 12 members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, or UNRWA, taken part in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, but 10% of the relief agency’s 12,000 workers in Gaza had ties to militant groups.

The New York Times on Jan. 28 had published a detailed story about 12 workers who aided in the Oct. 7 attacks, followed by the Journal’s broader piece about UNRWA staff’s alleged links to Hamas — a one-two punch that had an immediate impact on the agency. The US promptly froze funds to UNRWA, as did more than a dozen countries including Germany and Britain, stalling a total of $450 million. It was a massive scandal that put the organization, the main conduit for aid to Gaza, on the defensive.
But months later, the paper’s top editor overseeing standards privately made an admission: The paper didn’t know — and still doesn’t know —whether the allegation, based on Israeli intelligence reports, was true.

Hamas named its Gaza leader Yayha Sinwar, the mastermind of the attacks of 7th October, as successor of Ismail Haniyeh and head of the political bureau of the movement.

AFP cited a senior Hamas official as saying that by choosing Sinwar, the group is sending “a strong message to the occupation (Israel) that Hamas continues its path of resistance.”

“The assassination of Haniyeh, who believed in reaching a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange deal, leads Hamas to choose a leader who manages the battle and resistance against the enemy,” the official added.

Sinwar, who spent half his adult life in Israeli prisons, was the most powerful Hamas leader left alive following the assassination of Haniyeh, which has left the region on the brink of a wider regional conflict after Iran vowed harsh retaliation.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee or in short AIPAC, in other words the long arm of Israel's lobby in America, is going after the women of the Squad right now.

The squad is an informal name for a left-wing group of 8 people around AOC, like Ilhan Omar or Rashia Tlaib. So far AIPAC spend a few million bucks to make Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush loose their seats in parliament. Why did AIPAC do that? Because these women took a pro palestine stance in Congress.

It's a little bit shady in details, of course, but some details are now known:

Outside groups dumped $18.2 million into the race. Bell’s backers outspent groups supporting Bush roughly 4 to 1. AIPAC’s super PAC spent $8.5 million backing Bell’s campaign. Democratic Majority for Israel PAC spent half a million, and major Democratic donor Reid Hoffman’s Mainstream Democrats PAC spent $1.5 million in support of Bell. [...]

The infusion of cash made the race the fourth most expensive primary in House history, according to the Working Families Party.

Now let's think for one second AIPAC would be Russians...

More unbelievable anti-US press freedom shenanigans.

He's basically being charged for doing his job as a journalist.

In an egregious violation of press freedoms and First Amendment-protected activity, a New York City video journalist was arrested on felony hate crime charges Tuesday for allegedly being present during and documenting a pro-Palestine protest action.
The Outrageous Case of a Journalist Charged With a Hate Crime for Recording a Gaza Protest Action

A video showing IDF officers doing something horrible to a Palestinian detainee has surfaced. I'd heard reports of these abuses, and others, and, like the Abu Ghraib abuses, i'm sadly certain proof of more and worse abuse by the IDf will surface.

I note that after the Israeli govt. murdered World Central Kitchen aid workers, nothing has changed. No meaningful sanctions were applied. Expecting the same for this atrocity.

This lack of any real consequences gives the Israeli govt. confidence to continue its murderous rampage. And ignore, deflect, and supress news reports or announce a "We investigated ourselves, and, oopsie, we got caught doing a bad thing, but they're Palestinians, so who cares" enquiry.

Who cares indeed.
