I mean, I prefer gas over electricity because gas heat is more efficient and cost-effective than electric. But you still need electricity to power the fan that moves that heat out of the furnace and around the house, don't you?

Yes, but you can't cook on an electric stove without power. That was why when I did have a fireplace it was set up so that I could cook or at least heat stew.

Not much fun to try using the BBQ pit or smoker during a snow or ice storm.
