Yeah, and the journeyman years have nothing in common with the surename Walz.

Walz is an affectionate form of the name Walter. Walter is a German masculine given name of Germanic origin, composed of the elements walt- (Proto-Germanic *wald-) "power", "ruler", and hari (Proto-Germanic *χarja) "army".

So quite a fitting surename for a governor.

Well, two can play the Wiki game.

Walz (plural Walzes)
A surname.

Statistics
According to the 2010 United States Census, Walz is the 4879th most common surname in the United States, belonging to 7220 individuals. Walz is most common among White (95.14%) individuals.

German

Etymology
From walzen (“to wander”).

Pronunciation
IPA(key): /valts/

Noun
Walz f (genitive Walz, no plural)

journeyman years synonym ▲

Synonym: Wanderjahre

Yeah, but Wikipedia sometimes also delivers bad information. And I would not trust per se the Enlish one to be accurate on German names.

Luckily there is a German surename dictionary with explanations online, which is curated by scientists of the University of Mainz and Darmstadt.

And - surprise - my explanation is in it, yours not. So I highly disagree with your explanation based on that.

It's still the same word, so why on Earth would you say they have nothing in common?

Edit1: Also, if you don't trust Wikipedia, then why did you link to it?

Edit2: And last but not least, your other source doesn't even address the fact that "Walz" is a synonym for "Wanderjahre" ("journeyman years") in German. That seems like a bit of an oversight.

Edit3: And what do you mean with "my explanation"? All I did was to point out that the same word also refers to "journeyman years" in German. You were the one who started going off on this onomastics tangent. I don't even think that's a valid science.

Republicans fist-fighting Republicans. Nothing better.

A fight broke out at the opening of a Trump campaign office in Valdosta, Georgia, police have said.

The incident took place last week when State Representative John LaHood said he was approached by activist Sam Carnline after speaking at the event, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Carnline was reportedly wearing a T-shirt calling for paper ballots to be used instead of the current electronic system. The system has come under scrutiny from conservatives making baseless claims of fraud after former President Donald Trump lost Georgia in 2020 by fewer than 12,000 votes. Carnline said the election-related measures supported by LaHood were not strong enough.

Does German have words which can be polysemous or are homonyms? Like English can, current, bank, date, etc? Sometimes a language simply refuses to be placed into a tidy little box.

Trump’s meltdown during Harris-Walz rally sounds alarm: Will family get him help or just ‘cash his checks?’

The GOP’s nominee posted arguably his craziest social media rant — a wacked-out fantasy that President Joe Biden would change his mind about stepping out of the race and demand the nomination back.

The what-was-that post left people wondering what was wrong with Trump:

“What are the chances that Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST president in the history of the US, whose presidency was unconstitutionally STOLEN from him by Kamabla, Barack HUSSEIN Obama, Crazy Nancy Pelosi, Shifty Adam Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer and others on the lunatic left, CRASHES the Democrat National Convention and tries to take back the nomination, beginning with challenging me to another DEBATE. He feels that he made a historically tragic mistake by handing over the US presidency, a COUP, to the people in the world he most hates. And he wants it back NOW!!!”

Michael Steele, former Republican National Chairman, tweeted: “Umm, GOP, is DonaldTrump ok? Perhaps, the campaign has become too much for him — what with now having to run against VP Kamala Harris, watching his VP choice JD Vance say something stupid — again; or popular Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz joining the Harris campaign.
Trump reminds me of that one kid in junior high who always sat in the back, made annoying mouth noises and cracked jokes in whispers when the teacher had her back turned.

Even as someone who used to be a libertarian, I am often baffled by what the hell is going on with the Libertarian party of NH in particular. It's like they just want to sound insane.

I had some crazy views back then too, but still had at least some understanding of the need to tone it down to be persuasive rather than just show boating how crazy I was...

I think it's in part due to the draw of the Free State Project (among other abetments), which attracted libertarians - both small and large L - of a certain zeal and excessively dramatic view. Those who are more "toned down" in regards to acting on their political theories most likely stayed put, finding the idea of invading and conquering a people to be a bit beyond their taste.

Yeah, I heard about the free state project long ago and it was on my mind for this for sure. I think it attracted a lot of libertarians who are BOLD but really not very wise. And I agree, it's likely while the NH libertarian party makes the others seem sane. I even saw a comment that the NH LP is to Libertarians what the Westboro Baptist Church is to Christianity. I think it's a good comparison on a few levels. Both philosophies are wrong anyway, but the extremists make them look so much worse.
