I can’t believe this is 40. I’ve watched it a few times, and each I was in a different phase of life and different parts resonated with me.

One of my top 10 ugly crying movies for sure. What are yours?

My top 3 ugly cry TV or movie is “The Husbands of River Song” Dr Who episode and the movie Big Fish.

I’m torn on about 6 others including Terms of Endearment that could fight for 3rd. Boys on The Side is another top 3 contender.

"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Or as I call it, "Crying Tiger, Howling Dragon." If I need a good emotional release, I can turn on just the last 15 minutes. Never fails me.

I can’t remember the last time I cried in a movie. I think I’m dead inside. That’s exactly what I need right now, a good movie cry.

Oh wait, The Color Purple.

The sequel will probably be better.

Everything Everywhere makes me cry. Particularly when Waymond from the moviestarverse is giving his monologue near the end of the movie.

Also, its not really a full on cry, and its embarrasinly dumb, but it always makes me almost cry at the end of Independence Day when Randy Quaid sacrifices himself. Dude isn't even a particularly likable character.

I love to happy/sad cry from a good story with a good musical score... it clears out my allergy suffering tear ducts and feels great. I have seen a =lot= of things that have made me ugly-cry.

Nothing has ever made me cry harder or longer than "Perfect Sense"(2011) Ewan McGregor, Eva Green are neighbors, newly in love... and total social collapse begins to happen all around them (and the world). They struggle with each other, themselves, finding a new sense of purpose or hope in their new depressing reality as things get worse, and worse.

I just sat in the dark after it ended and cried for a whole hour afterwards. I can't even get through writing this post about it without the tears coming again, and it's been at least 10 years since I saw it. Some day I may watch it again, but I'll need to make sure I'm well-hydrated first with a fresh box of kleenex. =D

Other movies that get a good cry out of me... Philadelphia Story, Donnie Darko, My Own Private Idaho, Moulin Rouge, the list goes on and on. =)

I don't watch many movies anymore, but my top 3 would be Beaches, Love Story, and Philadelphia Story.

There are a lot of those moments in the 5th season of Babylon 5, which I just finished binge-watching this week. Because it was unknown whether or not there would be a 5th season, the main plot points were wrapped up in season 4, leaving a lot of room for personal introspection and character development among the three mini arcs of 5 (prelude to the telepath war, the fall of Centauri prime and relatede episodes, and Garibaldi's returning alcoholism. The series wrap-up episodes at the end were especially tearful - which I won't disclose for spoiler reasons.

A few here I’ve never seen but agree I cried with Color Purple, Philadelphia Story and especially Fried Green Tomatoes. I might actually rewatch that this weekend.

I cried almost every episode of season 2 of The Bear.

It’s been an interesting show, season 1 so different than season 2, and yet it makes sense because season 1 was really a long scene and character setting for the main storyline of season 2. Yet most episodes of season 2 contain flashbacks to before Season 1.

Sounds confusing I know but TLDR Season 2 of The Bear gut punched me more than once.

Last episode of Queen Charlotte on Netflix fucking ENDED me. I am not afraid to admit I was wailing when a violin version of I Will Always Love You started playing.

LOL I literally just made reference to Terms of Endearment today. My friend just had surgery and I told him if he needed me to I would go all Shirley MacLaine on the staff and demand they give pain meds to my daughter. Good times - and amazing movie. Easily in my top 10 movies ever.

In movies, the ending of Pan's Labyrinth always gets me, there are two main ways of interpreting it but I can only see the bleak side and it hits me so hard that although I love the movie I rarely watch it. Arrival can also tease a few tears from me when nature of Dr Bank's memories is revealed.

On TV, Arcane turned out to be a real ugly-crying experience at a few points, if you've watched it you can probably guess them. Also the music in that show can bring me to tears specially Ramsey's "goodbye" and Sting's "what could have been"

Generally I avoid movies that I know will make me cry (and I tend to watch more thriller/horror/Syfi) but I totally did not expect the dog in "I am Legend" to die and both my brother and I were sitting in the theatre together crying our eyes out. Both of us can watch people dying in movies all day long, but when an animal dies ... well ... shit. 😭😩:crying:

Yeah, it doesn't just stomp all over our 'empathy', but stabs into our sense of duty and responsibility to protect as well. Kind of a 2 for 1 blow when story tellers resort to that kind of plot element.

For a movie from a similar genre as 'I am Legend', maybe try 'Love & Monsters(2020)' (spoiler: the dog lives! =D)
