A lot of comment tonight around the media, pointing out the glaring difference between the treatment of Hope Hicks 3 days ago and how Stormy Daniels was treated today by the defense counsel.

The Defense Attorney Susan Necheles used mocking tones and baiting questions, even accusing Stormy of making it all up. To her credit, Stormy's response was something to the effect of "No, if I'd written it, it would have been good."

Trump's lawyer grills Stormy Daniels about motives for accepting hush money

What strikes me and angers me more than anything else is the vivid contrast between the treatment Hope Hicks has received - despite not saying anything about the stuff she saw before it got nutso - as a kind of socialite model who has been widely praised for her calmness, factual memory and "courage".

On the other hand, Necheles reminded Stormy she was a "sex worker", which Stormy objected to. (let's slut-shame her shall we?).

Maybe it's just me, but I can smell the cheesy fingers of Trump on Necheles' approach.

I think that's exactly what it is. Trump is a micromanager, and I'm sure he's micromanaging the hell out of his defense team.

On May 1, 2024, Charles Littlejohn began serving a five-year prison sentence for unauthorized disclosure of tax information. His crime is described by the Department of Justice as follows: Littlejohn, a contractor with the IRS, stole documents associated with “Public Official A” and provided it to “News Organization 1,” which published several articles using the information.

As anyone following this case would recognize, Public Official A is President Donald J. Trump, and News Organization 1 is The New York Times.

Littlejohn performed a public service. A presidential tax return contains information highly relevant to the voting public, and President Trump broke decades of tradition by refusing to disclose his returns. Moreover, when President Nixon’s tax return was leaked in the 1970s, the IRS leaker was not even indicted.

It's amazing to me that there are practicing lawyers who are like this.

I'm wondering what will happen if the jury comes back with a guilty verdict. Sentencing will take some time, so Trump won't go immediately to jail - but will he be allowed to leave the state and fly back to Florida or some other Republican hellhole?

I mean, I can see him simply refusing to go back to New York and some Republican governor blocking attempts to extradite the tangerine turd.

Yeah that's been a bit of a concern of mine. That, and whether he'll go to prison at all. I mean, I have no doubt he'll be found guilty of at least one of the 34 charges against him. But I have the sinking feeling Judge Merchan doesn't have the heart to imprison him.

During the closing arguments, Trump's attorney told the jury to think twice about sending Trump to jail, at which point the judge had to intervene and clarify that he was the one handing out the sentence - and that the jury, by law, is required to not take such matters into concern.

I suppose that encouraged the jurors to be particularly fastidious in their work. Combined with the fact that there are 34 charges, this means the verdict might take a while.

The MAGA freaks are telling Trump to run.

I heard Florida is great this time of the year. It gets even better in August. 😁

Fox News and right-wing media have already decided the Trump trial verdict

Throughout the duration of the Manhattan hush-money trial, Fox News and the rest of MAGA Media have set the stage to absolve Trump in the historic case. Day after day, week after week, popular personalities such as Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Steve Bannon have lampooned the judicial system, portraying Trump as an innocent victim of political persecution.

Inside this alternate media universe, the actual facts of the case never penetrate the bubble that shields its audiences from detrimental developments for Trump. Instead, alternate dishonest storylines are disseminated as the gospel truth.
Not only is Trump entirely innocent of any and all wrongdoing in the MAGA Media world, but President Joe Biden is guilty of nefariously weaponizing government to wage “lawfare” on his political opponent. Audiences are told that Biden cannot win a fair fight with Trump, so he has resorted to illegal “election interference” by rigging the judicial system against Trump.

It goes without saying that these narratives are built on foundations of lies and innuendo that do not hold water. Biden does not control the judicial system. The hush-money case is taking place in New York state court with charges brought by the Manhattan district attorney. And it isn’t Trump’s left-wing enemies who have been making headlines testifying against the GOP candidate in the case, it’s his former allies, such as one-time fixer Michael Cohen and former National Enquirer boss David Pecker.

Nevertheless, millions consuming right-wing media have been fed these deceptive storylines, impacting how voters perceive current events and, more importantly, cast their ballots. In the Republican Party, voters absorb their information from outlets like Fox News, which has dishonestly run defense for Trump over the course of the trial.

“WHERE’S THE CRIME?” demanded a banner on Ingraham’s prime time show Wednesday along with a graphic showing images of Biden, Judge Juan Merchan, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg “THE REAL FRAUDS.”
In the following hour, Jesse Watters accused Merchan in an on-screen graphic of “LEADING THE JURY” and intimated how “very fishy” it was that a “stop Trump” judge was selected to preside over the case.
