Update 5 looks amazing - enough to make me start a new playthrough, even. Can't wait for it to get out of Experimental. Also, the cameo from Josh of Let's Game It Out in the update vid was awesome.

Looking good! I'm probably going to start a new game of my own tomorrow. They have done a visual upgrade of the northern forest so I'm considering starting there.
I started in the dune desert, still haven't found the new sink hole they added. I've painted my machines/platforms to match the dunes, it looks like it's covered in dust. :D

I was being silly and 'grabbed' the sun with my xeno-zapper. :D

Huh. Anyway, while I'm here..

Two more Satisfactory Updates are out. I'm still hooked on this game and play often. :)

If anyone had been and is out of the loop: Update 6 added:
  • new ammo types (explosive rebar is my favorite)
  • multiple equipment slots (no need to switch between gas mask, hazmat suit, blade runners and jetpack, you can equip them at the same time),
  • map / beacon / radar tower improvements
  • updated zones (swamp / spire coast / dune desert )
  • updated critter variations & behaviors
and Update 7 added
  • The Blueprint Designer,
  • ceiling mounts for belts/pipes (autosenses floor/wall/ceiling and switches mount style)
  • Peaceful / Retaliation behavior modes for critters
  • new way to earn coupons for the shop (processing slain critters)
  • adjusted ratios of power to clockspeed for machines & power generators

I've kind of adapted to the challenge of only being able to fit one of these, so I wonder if this will almost make the early/middle game a bit too easy-feeling. I'm not gonna complain though, lol.

For me the challenge is in designing effective logistics to get stuff where it needs to be with minimal complexity. Dealing with critters / distances isn't bad.

The sprint/slide-jump mechanism when using both blade runners -and- the jetpack equipped is... really actually quite a fun way to get around. :D

ETA: The big spiders have a -huge- jumping range increase however... so even exploring with the hoverpak while running power lines isn't particularly safe. :)

Thanks to you folks, I have now gone to work for the Ficsit Corp.

I had not played a 3D computer game since the first Tomb Raider, so this is quite an eye-opener. I love the loopy sense of humor, too.

Question -- I had to install Steam to make the game work. What does Steam do?

Aside from being a storefront and library of games, Steam has its own networking backend that lets you build factories with other Steam users. Multiplayer Satisfactory is still a bit buggy though, and not well optimized for a non-dedicated server.

Aside that, if the publisher decides to use that feature, Steam has something called workshop, which offers a simple ability to install mods for your game. Satisfactory though is not using the workshop, it has not even yet an official mod API, but there are tons of mods already being available.

So installing Satisfactory mods is a little bit more work to do by hand.

Here's a database with mods called Ficsit.App: https://ficsit.app/

The Ficsit mod site does have a mod manager for download that makes mods a lot easier to deal with, including automatic updates.

It has been a long time since my last major play through of the game. I got my nuclear plant running and that was enough for me. I couldn't see going any further with all of the duplication involved. Blueprints didn't exist. Blueprints look like they will take care of the repetitiveness so I feel inspired to start afresh. So, first thing was to get iron, copper and limestone automated tonight, then coal soon, and blueprints not too long after that.

Re: Early Access - I've been burned by it so many times that I almost refused to pick up the game for that alone.
I paid the extra $20 to get into Diablo IV early access, mostly based on my years of history playing all the previous Diablos. It's one of my all time favorite franchises.

I got 2 good hours Saturday to play. Then the rest of the 4 extra days, the server was down, then up, then down. Why? Blizzard somehow thought it was more important to fix a bug in the online shop than it was to let pre-paid customers play all 4 days of their extra time. God forbid someone couldn't buy their phony cosmetic armor look that has zero effect on gameplay.

I won't say "never again" because I've done it before. I'll probably... oh wait, is that another shiny!?

So, Blizzard being Blizzard? ;)

I'm sure they've had a number smooth launches over the years, but they just don't stick in the memory as well as the many that weren't. =)

While I'm waiting for Satisfactory Update 8, I'm taking a break and dabbling with 'Timberborn'. (beavers / city building / 'woodpunk'), it's amusing, until the whole beaver colony starves, again, oops. :)

Satisfactory update 8 comes out tomorrow at 11 am est. It is recommended to back up your save files. On windows that is under %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\ . Update 7 was released a year ago give or take a day or two.

I abandoned the game for the longest time but been having lots of fun with it lately.

There is some mod out there which the poster didn't specify giving a factory looking like this.
