"Default mesh" and "one size fits all" bodies are profoundly undesirable. They'd take money out of the pockets of hardworking creators and choice out of the hands of consumers. Just because some people can't be bothered to look at a few Youtubes before they make their avatar doesn't mean those of us who love that aspect of play should be penalized.
Ugh.
One, SL isn't here to let a small select group become millionaires because its look like crap or have a mesh body [I'm exaggerating ]
Two, so basically, people who can't afford to buy lindens, and have no real way of making that many lindens, get to be stuck?
Three, LL had no problems breaking SS [which affected creators and their livelihoods], Sculptmap fashions, etc. I came back in 09 to my original account [I'd finally gotten around to calling LL and getting it fixed], half or more of my inventory was completely broken - I still have it.
Four, A new default body would not by default make ANY ONE ELSE have to USE the new body.
Five, just like in the real world, 'We can't get rid of using gas or coal, because what about the jobs', changes happen, its just the nature of things.
And Six? Did you even play back before mesh bodies? I can make 12+ different looking characters with just the outdated SL tools. A new default body would, oh, I don't know, give MORE options for your aspect you love so much, in theory be more efficiently made, and not slow down SL because of insane levels of polys.
ETA: Also, we're talking about retention and making plus attractive. To my mind, they are linked.
If I were to go into a new game, I wouldn't want to spend money until I saw that I liked the game. So, if I look like someone from 2004 in SL, and the only way to have a pretty avatar is to spend 10-20 real dollars? I'd just leave again, and without new players, there goes the new blood - and eventually SL will just go away and the existing player base drifts away.
