After reading several other threads in this subforum, I have to wonder whether Cthulu might be far from the greatest evil after all.

I've seen a compelling argument made that this Boomer ethic, which made sense during their own childhood in a time of scarcity, being applied to Gen X'ers and later who lived in a time of plenty, is at least a big part of why there's an obesity crisis in the US right now. People are so self-conscious and guilted about "wasting" or throwing away food that they're constantly eating more than they should. When I was a kid I was mainly told to eat all my food at dinner and to think of the poor starving children in Ethiopia.
Boomers didn't really have wartime or Great Depression scarcity, it was their parents and the parents of Gen X (At least when they were very young). The main point stands, tho. /pedantI've seen a compelling argument made that this Boomer ethic, which made sense during their own childhood in a time of scarcity, being applied to Gen X'ers and later who lived in a time of plenty
The underlying causes for obesity in the United States are complex. They range from a scarcity of good food sources in some neighborhoods, the way farmers are subsidized, the easy availability of cheap highly processed food, a culture of throwing out imperfect whole foods, and a lack of sound nutritional education. This is just scratching the surface, and there are many more factors as well. Boiling it down to some parents telling their kids to eat their food is a gross simplification.I've seen a compelling argument made that this Boomer ethic, which made sense during their own childhood in a time of scarcity, being applied to Gen X'ers and later who lived in a time of plenty, is at least a big part of why there's an obesity crisis in the US right now. Fantastic observation.just because I ate something, it does not imply that the food was not wasted.
All the food I eat is waisted. All food that I eat is wasted.
Having been in the military, I've probably gotten every immunization under the sun. But, yeah, this is good advice. I actually hadn't even thought of that.Even if you're an adult and have already had the MMR vaccine, if it's been a while (I forget how long, worth looking up. I aren't a doctor.) it's good to get a test to see if it's still fully active for all of them. You reeeeeeeeallly don't want any of those diseases when you're an adult.
