He's obviously unrepentant. Despite visual evidence to the contrary, he's still trying to pass this off as a mistake. If you watch the tape, you can see that he's aiming for exactly where his hand landed. And he's tall enough that there's no way he'd hit that low with a sloppy aim.

Callaway stepped forward and went to the TV station to give an on-camera apology.

“It was an awful act and an awful mistake,” he said, adding that he was raising his arm trying to pat the reporter on the back or shoulder and didn’t realize until seeing the video he had touched her buttocks.

I still blame this on our two-party systems which are based on endless conflict between two sides and seems to swing wider and wider into extremes. It's winner take all and they no longer care what it takes to win. Winning is all because winning is power.

Note that it is WaPo that is breaking the "Afghan papers". WaPo isn't part of some media empire. They, too, have perceptions to manage for the plutocrats, but maybe with the CIA diversifying its technical contracts, Bezos isn't motivated any more to carry water for the MIC?
Amazon is desperately trying to become part of the MIC; it is currently suing the US government for not awarding it a major contract to be the military's sole cloud service provider.

Yes, what he said was obviously self-exculpatory nonsense, and I would imagine that if he continues to display that attitude in court, then it will not go well for him when it comes to sentencing.

In an ideal world, that sentence would include a mandatory course for sex offenders, but the problem is that they last for three years (or the ones we have in the UK do) so they're generally delivered inside prisons.

Obviously they can be, and are, delivered delivered in the community, as part of a non-custodial sentence, but the way our sentencing regime works makes it very difficult to justify giving the offender a non-custodial sentence including three years' probation rather than a prison term of no more than a year or so, and certainly not long enough for the offender to take the course while he serves his sentence.

Yes, and no. The UK has a multi-party system. The problem is that the bankers run the world. That's the common denominator. Multinational organizations that have no loyalty to anyone or anything other than money. Greed is what ruined these nations. As long as the politicians are content with the current order of things, that will be the fate of all wealthy nations.

Wow. And there you have it, the coded hate speech of the most vile right-wing factions our planet has to offer.
What the hell are you talking about?

Obviously I don't presume to speak for Beebo, but were I to be asked why I agree with her point, this article from the Jewish Chronicle, and written from a marxian perspective, would inform my attempt to explain my agreement: Why Jeremy Corbyn's 'rigged system' is a template for antisemitism

Their whole critique of Corbynism makes interesting reading, not just for what it says about recent British politics but also -- probably more so -- for its marxian critique of left-populism in general: Corbynism: A Critical Approach.

I explained pretty specifically what I meant a couple of sentences later - multinational financial organizations. I had not one breath of anything related to Jews. Can we not have a fucking honest discussion about the corrosive nature of the financial industry because of Jews?

Jeez, even I understand "evil bankers who run the world" to be a derogatory reference to jews. It's a pervasive anti-semitic trope. It's disingenuous to make such a reference and then express surprise that someone recognized the allusion.

So the answer is no, then. What the fuck ever. I specified what I meant and it had nothing to do with the Jews.

So I'm confused. Are those of Jewish persuasion the only ones allowed to be evil bankers? If I'm a holy jewish banker, am I not allowed to run the world?

Just saying there are a lot of bankers in the world and not all of them are Jewish. I hope you all are not presuming their religious affliation because we'll have to go all REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! on your arses ;)

Also I know it is a stereotype and not a favourable one. It ranks right there with all Romany being thieves and all Germans being mad scientists when some of us aren't mad, just really really angry.

Now everyone kiss and shake hands. No tongues!

Even if you're talking solely about "evil bankers who aren't Jewish", the financial industry (while obscenely wealthy) does not run the world. If you think that banks are calling the shots, how the heck did the Saffron Don become the US president when every bank in the world save one flat out refused to do any business with him?

If I was going to point at wealthy intransigence, I’d be pointing at the fossil fuel industries and the drug-fueled criminal organizations. They’re not necessarily the most wealthy or powerful, but they definitely have shown they don’t give a damn about the rule of law. And they thrive on fascisms, which are bad for (normal) business.

IMO, there are far more corrosive industries than the banks and stock exchanges.
