So this game is teaching me some important things about organizational skills, and how I don't have any. I need to organize my rats' nest of stuff, put down some flooring etc....but I'm also afraid to because if I interrupt production to rearrange everything for too long I'm worried I'll run out of stuff before I'm done! Plus I keep needing to go out and harvest more and more biofuel which takes some time too.

Okay! I've kinda binged Satisfactory for the last couple of days and made it to coal power. Coal power is IMMENSELY freeing, because the hassle of constantly hunting down biofuel for power is completely gone - coal plants once built are 100% automated and the only thing you have to do is build more coal plants as your energy needs increase, leaving time for you to do everything else without ever feeling hurried again (afaik).

Another thing that has occurred to me on reading up is that this is a mathy game, and until now I haven't been paying much attention to the math. I mean, I've checked to try and make sure it seemed like I was always making more of a thing, like mining iron, than I was using up, generally. But every machine tells you exactly how much of each material it inputs per minute, and how much it outputs. Conveyor belts move a certain volume, belt splitters split predictably. So you can do all the math and ensure that the whole factory is working as efficiently as possible and nothing is wasted or sitting idle on belts when it could be making something instead.

And the last thing is, I realized this game doesn't really have a "win state", at least not yet. So I want to stop thinking of it as a game that I need to get through or "finish", and instead as just something that will be there for me to play with long-term.

Sooooo with all that in mind I think I'm going to start a new game and see if I can do things better from the beginning.

Must be why Trump focused so much political energy on it.

Spoken like a true robber baron of the Gilded Age.

This is not an easy game for the identity-environmentalist to play. You are completely ravaging an uninhabited planet for its natural resources. ^^

Oil extraction and uranium mining are much much later in the game though...

you just hit a in game curve... your supply chains are only going to get more complex... let me know when your preparing for the end game reactor..
Been exploring and having fun setting up trains too much, jumping to tier 7 hasn't been a priority yet.

I'm still juggling around crude oil, plastics, rubber, their byproducts, it's an interesting puzzle to fit together efficiently! =)

Mostly at this point my problem is organization. I haven't found the right sweet spot between building 'too dense' or 'too sparse' yet. I'll get there. But at least it's 'sky box' friendly, and my secondlife "no room on the ground? GO UP!" conditioning is very helpful. =)

Other than the whalestriders and shrimpuppies ... -all- the wildlife I've encountered needs to die horribly. Napalm spitting moose-things, lava bees, giant spider gangs, turbo armadillo-boars ... I don't feel at all bad about belching coal smoke into their skies. And I build another power plant every time I see one of those toxic green bio-clouds in revenge. ;)

up up and up...theres lots of youtube videos of peoples spaghetti-like bases or check how they organize themselves for ideas. you might be tearing down your base and rebuilding it several times if you really want to be organized.. bringing out the calculator.. maxing out streams... people get really OCD...

I'm a prototype/proof-of-concept guy. If it works, it sticks around until I decide it's too far away or not producing enough and there's no room to expand it in place.

things took an ugly turn when I realized you could just snap mergers/splitters onto overhead conveyor belts. ;)

You can blows those plants up with the dynamite thingy!
If you can find them!! There seems to be some fields that have permanent/un-bombable gas spewers. :(

But bombs also work well on beasts... I love sticking a few to that nasty green-fire spitting moose-boss and blowing him to kingdom come =)

You guys convinced me. I'm getting Satisfactory from steam. I'm only getting it since steam has a short term money back guarantee. I don't know if it will actually run on this laptop with a gtx950m. It's below the specs.

Definitely watch some videos or streams first. It's the kind of game I think you can only love or hate, not much room for in-between. It would suck to buy a game that doesn't play that great on your machine AND that you don't actually like. ^^

Runs pretty well on my aging i5-2500kcpu@3.30Ghz / 12gb ram / gtx660. I can't run anything else, not even a browser in the background though. Handles ultra setting pretty, but I generally run one step down from that.

Worst performance issue, honestly, seems to be the 1.5 second freeze while it auto-saves. Trivial most of the time, but not while fleeing a beastie. The game has crashed on me a small handful of times, and it's 'early release'... so the default of 5 minutes autosaves aren't a bad idea, but I stretched mine out to 15min anyway. :)

I like this game, Satisfactory. I managed to make it through the tutorial and then some. I have a permanent iron miner, smelter and constructor hooked to a biofuel power plant with conveyor belts finally sending it to a storage bin.

There are some things that really need to be pointed out in the tutorial. I started the game over several times because my Xeno-Zapper kept disappearing mysteriously. I learned this evening that if you die and respawn you have to go to a crate to get your stuff. I haven't had the opportunity to try this out though since the only time I've died near my hud was when I fell down a deep ravine. The crate was down there I think. But there is no way down there without dieing from the fall. I also spent a lot of time wondering why the resource locator always was on copper when I held the V key even if I rotated it to something else. Later I realized it remembered what I picked holding the V when I just tapped it.

The game didn't treat my laptop very well. It ran smoothly but the laptop and adapter got very hot. Too hot. The laptop shut down. It wouldn't come back up until I removed the adapter from the ac for a moment. I've had very high heat from my laptop before on other games. I'd say it's a design defect. So I'm using my fiancee's laptop.

Thanks for the tip about the game. It's a lot of fun.

You too?!?!?!

I think I made a mistake buying this one. I swear, my bed time has gone from 8pm to 2am since buying it. One day blurs into the next. Sleep has become a secondary activity. Just... one.. more... assembler... (@_@)

Remember, if you can't get to your remains, you can make replacement gear back in your Workshop building! =)
(I've learned to craft pairs of items, leaving one in the hub's chest for those 'whoops!' moments).

I'm so close to unlocking tier 7&8. While I'm waiting for the parts to be manufactured, I've been building out my 3 base railway. ( kind of a "Y shaped track, with turn-abouts at each end). The turnabout loop for my main/central base loops around my sky elevator way up in the air. The view is awesome! =D I'll post some snaps later! =)

Parked in the station facing north (that's my hub/MAM/workshop/awesome shop building in front of the satellite elevator:

and part way up the loop...

Coming back down the far side of the loop it really picks up speed and blasts through the station at top velocity.
Really "Bats the stack off her!" or some such cryptic railway jargon! ;)

You guys are all doing productive things like building factories and I am just sitting over here fighting Demons on Bloodstained Ritual of the Night.
