Another of the comments to the video sums it up perfectly:

The Trump MAGA BS reality show continues: S22 E3 "Shots Fired!"

TEN FACTS:
1) Trump didn't want to attend that Correspondence Dinner.
2) "Ballroom building" has been ordered shut down.
3) Iran & Epstein conversations won't go away.
4) Security was like "Fort Knox."
5) Suddenly a "shooter" breached all that "tight" security.
6) Trump NOW has the greatest excuse EVER to leave the event.
7) Minutes AFTER the shooting, MAGA on-line posts proclaim, "Ballroom building must resume!"
8) Trump gives press conference reiterating same "Ballroom message."
9) Who's talking about Epstein or Iran today? Trump, once again, changed the conversation.
10) Many things don't pass "the smell test." Another fake/staged "assassination attempted?"
Also at a Press Event. Guarantred heavy coverage.

I'd have thought that, whatever the venue, any attempted assassination of Donald Trump, or any US President, would attract pretty heavy coverage from the media.

As of this:

...I'm *leaning* not-staged. Cuz if the shooting is fake then the manifesto also has to be fake, and no way in hell does Trump or any of his goons deliberately hand any American journalist an opportunity to repeat the pedo/rapist allegations on national television, to his face.

To Trump, everything is all about Trump.

Yeah but not "boots on the ground" people there coverage like an event full of reporters.

Yes but this is literally an event for the press, so staging it at that guaranteed coverage well beyond what would normally happen.

That doesn’t mean it’s not staged. It just means they were sloppy.

Well yes, it could be a staged event. It also could be though Trump's ego at work again. What do I mean by that?

Simple: the Secret Service itself is known to be very capable and outstanding in what it does. Normally. But what if Trump decided to shun a lot of their veterans on a whim because he didn't like their faces, replacing them with MAGAist sycophants? You do get a very different type of Secret Service, full of idiots. Just think about it the Secret Service in the field run by officers like Pete Hegseth. That would be very bad.

And so sometimes the biggest obstacle of wannabee dictators are not their enemies, but their own incompetence ruining important things so enabling certain types of attacks directed to them. Which also means in that type of regard Trump is his own worst enemy.

I don't actually see what was so wrong with how the Secret Service handled it. The dinner has always been held without incident at the Washington Hilton, where the Secret Service have had the challenge of keeping the incumbent president secure without disrupting the hotel's normal functioning and seriously inconveniencing hotel guests who have nothing to do with the dinner.

Since the shooter was a registered guest at the hotel, he was able to enter and move about the hotel reasonably freely until he began to behave suspiciously, at which point he was captured and detained without anyone being injured. Trump and the other guests at the function were never in any actual danger because the security precautions worked and he was apprehended before he got anywhere near the dinner.

If a would-be assassin had tried something similar in earlier years when President Obama was a guest at the function, doubtless it would have played out in much the same way.

ETA: I wrote this before I read this piece, which makes a very similar point, among others

But is the problem revealed by this event really that gala black-tie Washington dinners are held in insufficiently hardened locations? After all, security operated just as it was designed to do, and the shooter never even got to the same floor as the president. This reaction is reminiscent of the way Republicans always respond to school shootings, arguing that we certainly can’t examine our gun laws; all we can do is turn your local elementary school into a fortress.

Nevertheless, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has sprung into action. He sent a letter Sunday to the lawyer representing the National Trust for Historic Preservation, demanding that the group drop its lawsuit challenging the way the ballroom steamrolled over the normal process for such projects.
“Your lawsuit puts the lives of the President, his family, and his staff at grave risk,” Blanche wrote.

How we survived this long as a country without it is hard to fathom; the memory of the Founding Fathers will forever be tainted by their failure to include in the Constitution a ballroom provision.

Yeah, I know a few people who were there have asserted that security was "reduced" but I'm not sure what they mean by that, in the videos of the incident there's all kinds of armed guys running around and shouting. But regardless, whatever security there was was clearly sufficient because this guy tried to make it through them and didn't. He was made by the metal detectors and tried to rush them and failed.

Thats why pictures of Trump and his goons smiling or laughing after the situation don't really strike me as saying anything because it's not like anything happened to them, even their evacuation was purely precautionary as the guy was already in cuffs by then.

The more I think about this, the more uncomfortable I am about the "false flag" explanation.

If, when President Obama was in office, a similar unsuccessful attack had taken place during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, and a shooter taken into custody who'd left a manifesto/letter to the New York Daily News about Obama being a Kenyan Muslim and how "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants," then doubtless Alec Jones and all the other right-wing-influencers, plus Donald Trump, of course, would have denounced the whole thing as an obvious flag operation by a tyrannical government that wanted to take everyone's guns off them and force them into gay marriages, and we'd all have been laughing at their conspiracy theory.

On the same set of facts, though, many people seem perfectly prepared to accept the false flag theory when the target is someone they'd like to be rid of.

Once we hit on an explanation for something, then it's very easy to see how everything supports that explanation, without stopping to think that it would just as well support an alternative explanation. I remember a very experienced senior detective in our Metropolitan Police once telling me that deciding a suspect must be guilty can be absolutely fatal to an investigation because, once you've decided you've identified the culprit and just need supporting evidence, then everything starts to look like supporting evidence, including that he had three sausages rather than two for breakfast that morning.

ETA

If you watch the footage from the ballroom last night, the moment it all breaks open, every person at that head table sitting with Trump reads the danger instantly. Melania Trump begins lowering herself to the floor. People are diving under tables across the room. Every single person in that ballroom understood, in their body, what was happening. And Donald Trump sat there with an unconcerned blank look on his face. As though the message had been sent and had not arrived. His wife looked shocked. The woman to his right had already gone down to the ground. The room was in chaos. And he just sat there.
And we must ask the necessary question that every American has the right to ask: if the President of the United States cannot read a room in a moment of unmistakable, immediate, physical danger, how do we trust him to accurately perceive any threat to this country? He controls the nuclear codes. He is the person who has to make unthinkable decisions. He is the person on whom the safety of hundreds of millions of people depends. And he couldn’t read what everyone around him read in seconds. That question deserves an answer.

Reminds me of a video I recently saw of a linguist talking about how easy it is for cops to confuse normal African American English terms with gang lingo.

I think the main difference is that unlike Obama, Trump and his crew lie constantly. Provably. They also turn everything into a big memey show.

And yeah, I get that Conservatices of the time would say Obama lied a lot. Except its a difference of proof vs not proof.

So when you have this event now, eithall the sus nonsense around it, the assumption becomes "its just another lie."
