A week ahead of release, Marvel’s Eternals is looking like a rare misstep from the MCU. With over 100 reviews in, its critical Rotten Tomatoes score has dropped to a 61%, barely above a “fresh” rating, and yet also making it the worst-reviewed MCU movie out of 26 total films.

Looks like review bombing.
IMDB shut down reviews from before a film releases to stop the review bombing. I don't know why review sites ever allowed reviews for things that haven't come out yet, anyway.
I've seen a lot of people blaming homophobes for the review bombing, because The Eternals features a gay couple. I think that maybe that's some of it, but I think it's mostly China doing it. The director is Chloe Zhao,
who has been blackballed in China so hard that they blacked out the Oscars because her Nomadland got nominated for something. Xi really is that petty. It's pathetic that a world power would go and review bomb a film on IMDB and rotten tomatoes, but that's the world we live in.
I do agree that the trailers look bad. I wouldn't normally see Eternals in a theater, but given the circumstances... I don't care how bad the trailers look, I'll go see Eternals in the theater, opening night, even in a pandemic, and I'll buy the size gag buckets of popcorn and soda, just on principle, because fuck the CCP. I'll always support big studios who are willing to give up Chinese distribution, in order to stick to principles that I care about.
To be honest, I don't expect it to be the greatest thing since Shakespere, but the last two films I saw in a theater were Mortal Kombat and Dune. There's absolutely no way it can possibly be worse than either of them. At the very least, the sound will be better than Dune. I've never had problems understanding MCU dialog. Plus, it has Galactus. Who doesn't want to see a giant nomming on planets? I want to see Galactus's spice rack.
