Just watched Always Be My Maybe (Netflix). I actually laughed out loud a few times. If you haven’t seen it (from 2019) and feel like watching a fun rom-com… and if you don’t remember what it’s about or who’s in it, don’t watch or read any previews so you can be surprised.

Watching through Star Trek Discovery. My sensibilities fail to knit it into any of the known universes. So I'm enjoying it as an instance of, where are we now, Pi and Rho early in Season two. Gosh they're gonna run out of designators if they keep diverging. This is worthy of a Ray Stevens song.

That trailer doesn't make me want to see the movie any less, but I don't like it because it feels like it gives away far, far too much compared to the teaser released last fall. I think so many things shown off in this new one would've been AMAZING and fun to be just suddenly surprised with during the actual movie.

It seems cyclicle. Watch a few movie trailers from the forties, fifties, and sixties on the Youtube; you'll see practically the whole film including character introductions, plotlines, reveals, and extensive dialogue. The super secretly encoded cryptographic trailers came out in the late seventies and were the norm for a few decades. The last few years have seen a return to far too much revelation in the trailers and far too much spoilage in the social medias.

In Season 3 and we've segued from deux ex comic strip intensity to children making up stories around a pile of random toys. I'll finish it but hope that nobody ever does this again. Give me STW set in my grandmother's Trek universe sans hours of boring John Wick choreography.

I struggled with Star Trek Discovery. It seemed like at least once in every episode they ramped up the tension with life-or-death-every-second-counts emergencies and then slammed on the brakes to stop so characters could share and respect each others' feelings for several minutes.

I do appreciate entertainment that's 'inclusive' and not afraid to seem 'woke', but this series handled it so awkwardly that it made both look more like liabilities instead of benefits.
