Yup, compared to a few weeks ago.

Lots of possible reasons I suppose, but my two favorite (uninformed) guesses:

1. Someone finally showed Trump all the "President Musk" memes, or something else happened to cause him to finally lose the Executive Staff dick-measuring contest and he has been sidelined in a way that hurts his ego, so he's sulking

or

2. There are now hard numbers that can't be ignored, spun, or waved away showing how badly his public political shift and activity has damaged Tesla, and the idea that he might have really, really f'd up in a way he might not be able to fix is affecting him so much that he has become deeply depressed and withdrawn.

Trump is a populist, he doesn't care about being right, he cares about ratings.

Elon has the stink of "unpopularity" all over him, and Trump doesn't want that standing next to him right now. So even if Elon is doing what Trump wants him to, he'd rather he do it more invisibly.

Trump is a populist narcissist, he doesn't care about being right, he cares about ratings.

Elon has the stink of "unpopularity" all over him, plus he's taking too much of the limelight, and Trump doesn't want that standing next to him right now. So even if Elon is doing what Trump wants him to, he'd rather he do it more invisibly.

Trump World Is Slamming the Door on Elon Musk: ‘People Hate Him’ (archive.today)
After more than two months of hyping Elon Musk and his work at the Department of Government Efficiency, President Donald Trump and his supporters have gone awfully quiet on the world’s richest man.

While Musk was once a fixture at the White House and featured heavily in the president’s social media posts and fundraising emails, the Tesla CEO has hardly been mentioned since early April, Politico reported.

He now barely gets mentioned in White House briefings, and members of Congress have also stopped talking about him, the outlet found.

Everything he says is a lie as far as I can tell. But what is the key phrase to look for? I mean, WTLDR, did scan, didn't grok.
WIRED examined the history of Musk’s pledges on everything from Full Self Driving, Hyperloop, Robotaxis, and, yes, robot armies, with a view to reminding ourselves, his fans, and investors how reality in Elon’s world rarely matches up to the rhetoric. Tellingly, Musk’s fallback forecast of “next year” turns up repeatedly, only to be consistently proven wrong.

The British political activist group "Led by Donkeys" dug out 98 years old UK WWII veteran Ken Turner, who using a Sherman tank gave a Swasticar the great working British anti fascist treatment it deserved.

He looks at least 20 years younger than he is.

Elon Musk’s shouting match with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent might have been the final nail in the coffin for the tech billionaire’s four-month stint in the White House, but it came after months of bubbling frustration at Musk’s “chain-saw” approach to dismantling the federal government.

Musk and Bessent exploded at each other in April when Musk attempted to force through his pick to lead the IRS—Gary Shapley—behind Bessent’s back. (Musk eventually lost this battle—Shapley lasted less than 72 hours before Bessent tapped Michael Faulkender to replace him.)

“Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck you!” a typically mild-mannered Bessent was heard shouting after Musk as they charged down the halls of the West Wing.
“The fight had started outside the Oval Office; it continued past the Roosevelt Room and toward the chief of staff’s office, and then barreled around the corner to the national security adviser’s warren,” The Atlantic reported Wednesday.

But the gossip-worthy feud was just one of many that occurred between Musk and Trumpworld 2.0’s prominent members.

[...]

Musk’s unceremonious exit from government followed widespread reports that several senior Trump officials practically hated the tech billionaire, finding him abrasive, unfunny, and pompous—with some describing Musk as the “most irritating person” they’d “ever had to deal with.”

“I have been in the same room with Elon, and he always tries to be funny. And he’s not funny. Like, at all,” a senior Trump official told Rolling Stone last month. “He makes these jokes and little asides and smiles and then looks almost hurt if you don’t lap up his humor. I keep using the word ‘annoying’; a lot of people who have to deal with him do. But the word doesn’t do the situation justice. Elon just thinks he’s smarter than everyone else in the room and acts like it, even when it’s clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Elmo Musk announced today the end of his work for the government. He's made sure to emphasize in his tweet that his "scheduled time" came to an end, which according to insiders is a lie, his leave was decided at "senior staff level" according to them. Not much senior stuff around which can make this decision for sure. So probably Trump had enough?

Musk just went away without fanfare, getting praise or last talk from Trump whatsoever. He just went away.

As first thing after that Musk is signaling he's back at business with Tesla, SpaceX, xAI and whatnot. More so, he's openly criticising the "big one beautful bill", because it increases the federal budget deficit a lot and undermines the gains by DOGE.

Much of or most of the population will never know how much of a failure Musk was because the media they watch (if they watch any) won't tell them. He cut jobs and caused major disruptions and saved almost no money. Many people he tried to fire had to be rehired due to the fact that they were actually needed.

This kind of mirrors how he cut twitter. He ran around with a figurative chainsaw, and had to hire many of them back (or try to) and caused a lot of problems in the stability of the platform. ....but right wing media only covered the early appearance of success without mentioning the troubles.

I really worry about how this nonsense will affect many other corporate jobs. Investors will demand cuts of "waste" to be like Musk but reckless cost cutting is probably the biggest enemy of quality.
