Seriously, though, if this is a new precedent, there's gonna be a lot of pissed off musicians out there. I mean, one of the perks of being a professional musician is that nobody drug tests you.

Black Eyed Peas just performed in CNN's 4th of July spectacular. Most performers are decent, but Black Eyed Peas are following a formula to create buzz that was pioneered by Miriah Carey and Cyndi Layper: perform with no monitor and fire the sound engineer when the set starts. Its a tired formula at this point, but you know videos of it will be everywhere tomorrow. I always wondered how music notation software works. I decided to find out tonight and downloaded Musescore. It is open source software for that. It took maybe 20 minutes from the time I placed the first note to make this. I suppose if you know about this kind of stuff it might seem like "whatever" but to me it was a revelation that at least easy things are easily done.
