This is horrible news. You are saying there is more than one example of The Clarkson.
Kind of. People like Clarkson - older man with a certain amount of wealth - were in the past the main buyer group of Jaguar. This list includes Jerry Hall, Frank Sinatra, David Beckham, Harrison Ford, Simon Cowell, James May, George Harrison, Patrick Stewart, Peter Sellers, Tony Curtis, Elton John, Steve McQueen and also Queen Elizabeth II and Brigitte Bardot.

But you get the idea, it's mostly targeted at males.

The thing is that in the past sales are on heavy decline. Jaguar was never a big manufacturer, but had quite steady sales, which are since 4-5 years in decline.

I mean it makes sense to broaden the customer base. And one thing is clear: the campaign really grabbed attention, this part is succesful. Question is if the rest of it will be as well, I doubt that.

Jaguar is a car brand with over 102 years of history. And what they are trying here is to rebrand it as something completely different, putting the history into a dumpster fire instead of honoring it.

Mh yeah, a bold move. Question is who is willing to buy this brick on wheels.

There's little left of what made Jaguar so iconic here. Which doesn't mean it is per se a bad car, but for sure a bad Jaguar.

More news about British cars

The Ford Escort here, you see, is a work which "opens up to larger questions of memory, culture and politics that have big historical and geographical co-ordinates in particular the legacy of colonialism”.

Tap water safety at risk after testing labs shut down

Any product used to clean tap water must be tested and certified as safe for that purpose. The problem....well the labs capable and certified to perform that testing shut down in 2021, all three of them.

So no new products can be certified or used.

Also, the certification for existing products has to be renewed every five years or they lose it.

Also UK law prohibits testing outside of the UK.

This means new products cannot be tested or used to clean water, and that products that have to be retested every five years also cannot be approved. Whistleblowers at water companies havesaid this “limits the availability of products in the market which both risks safety and reduces competition, which will drive up prices and reduce service quality”. There is a backlog of dozens of products awaiting testing.

There are no plans for new labs. The DWI could not give a date for when a new lab could be opened or when the problem will be solved. Water company insiders say the rule has indefinitely stopped the use of all new products that remove contaminants from the water supply.

Those charged with cleaning the UK’s tap water at water companies said the gap in testing capacity has caused the compliance of existing products to lapse, and that they have since come off the market. They said many of these products that cannot now be used actively prevent contamination from entering the water supply.

Storm Darragh showed me how unprepared my family – and Britain – are for disaster | Gaby Hinsliff | The Guardian
Nothing feels as dumb as smart tech in a blackout. Overnight we lost not only light, heat and the ability to do anything from bank transactions to checking email on the apps I normally use, but temporarily we also lost connection to the outside world. (Mobile signal only works at the end of our rural lane when boosted by the wifi hub, 4G is wildly patchy and even our old-school cordless landline dies without power.) Life, in short, went analogue. Though we were thankfully reconnected on Saturday night, as of Monday morning 100,000 households had gone two nights and counting without power – no joke for the old, frail or ill-prepared.
