I stopped using The Weather Channel app many, many years ago - as in like, back in the iPod Touch days - because of ad spam. It has just gotten worse ever since. Most recently, they've started using some LLM or other to inject useless "relatable commentary" fluff into their weather forecasts and it's just terrible, lol.

Silicon Valley and Washington are debating a multibillion-dollar question: Should American companies be able to use Chinese artificial-intelligence models?

OpenAI and Anthropic executives are sounding the alarm about the rise of cheap AI, particularly powerful new models produced in China, suggesting they will lead to a “dystopian” AI future and present unacceptable security risks without regulation.

Some analysts who study the AI industry say the two companies, which are preparing for public listings in the next year, just want to eliminate the competition.

I had a dumb hypothetical conversation with Claude about uf it would be possible to "store" data by creating a router loop and just, keeping the data moving.

I mostly mention it because it had some interesting points.

One, the storage amount would be rediculously small. On the order of bytes. For a text message worth of data you woukd need miles of cable.

You would have to disable TTL on the packets and overcome bit flip packet loss.

A faster connection would hold more data.

A longer cable would hold more data (linearly scaling)

At the same connection speed, copper would be better than fiber because the bandwidth delay is higher in copper so it has more "space".

I know we're all annoyed by the HUGE effort by big tech to push their stupid AI bots on us; but I think the thing they are doing that is annoying me the most right now is what I call "button creep." Meaning they keep putting more and more buttons to engage their AI bots EVERYWHERE in browsers and various applications (mobile and PC). It's getting easier and easier to click one accidently when I had no intention of using one of them. I can imagine some shit head designers are just sitting in conference rooms brainstorming about where else they can put these buttons!!!!
