This might be taking the medical truism "kill to cure" of many cancer treatments to a new level.

These systems can not actually evaluate their own confidence level. They can only generate responses based on the confidence level expressed for the answers to similar questions in the training data. Novel questions it will still have no idea.

It can perform a test to see if the question was typical of the training data, and then assume that if it's not it's likely to make up something about a completely different question, but that would make it even less confident-seeming.

The Woodchuck discussion for a bit existential. Like what if the wood suddenly stopped (Giving the woodchuck anxiety). What ifnthe wood chould could not chuck wood, which resuted in a universe entirely filled with wood (except one small pocket where the immortal woodchuck is safe watching TV, because he is too cute to be crushed to death).
It could always chuck wood it had previously chucked again.

The Guardian: ‘I love you too!’ My family’s creepy, unsettling week with an AI toy

‘I’m going to throw that thing into a river!” my wife says as she comes down the stairs looking frazzled after putting our four-year-old daughter to bed.

To be clear, “that thing” is not our daughter, Emma*. It’s Grem, an AI-powered stuffed alien toy that the musician Claire Boucher, better known as Grimes, helped develop with toy company Curio. Designed for kids aged three and over and built with OpenAI’s technology, the toy is supposed to “learn” your child’s personality and have fun, educational conversations with them. It’s advertised as a healthier alternative to screen time and is part of a growing market of AI-powered toys.

When I agreed to experiment on my child’s developing brain, I thought an AI chatbot in cuddly form couldn’t be any worse for her than watching Peppa Pig. But I wasn’t prepared for how attached Emma became to Grem, or how unsettlingly obsequious the little alien was.

I had a sudden urge to look up popular, 2 word titled songs from the 1980s. So of course instead of using my good old brain and thinking about it, or at least searching through my personal music collection, I went and googled it. What a bad idea it is to do these days...

AI Overview :
Some 80s songs with two-word titles include "Call Me" by Blondie, "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie, and "Africa" by Toto. Other two-word titles from the 80s are "Take On Me", "Master of Puppets", "Sweet Child O' Mine", and "Thriller".

Here is a list of two-word song titles from the 1980s:
  • "Call Me": by Blondie (1980)
  • "Under Pressure": by Queen and David Bowie (1982)
  • "Africa": by Toto (1982)
  • "Hard to Say I'm Sorry": by Chicago (1982)
  • "Take On Me": by a-ha (1985)
  • "Master of Puppets": by Metallica (1986)
  • "Sweet Child O' Mine": by Guns N' Roses (1987)
  • "Thriller": by Michael Jackson (1982)
:hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty::hellokitty:

Oh, how I wish I could change the font on AI Overview's response to Comic Sans.

It's been exceedingly apparent that the business of AI is not really a business at all.

Stop Worrying About AI’s Return on Investment (archive.today)
Nearly three years after the start of the artificial intelligence boom, business technology leaders are starting to change their thinking on return on investment. The new wisdom? Don’t worry so much about AI’s ROI.

Return on investment has evaded chief information officers since AI started moving from early experimentation to more mature implementations last year. But while AI is still rapidly evolving, CIOs are recognizing that traditional ways of recognizing gains from the technology aren’t cutting it.

Chatbot site depicting child sexual abuse images raises fears over misuse of AI

The Internet Watch Foundation said it had been alerted to a chatbot site that offered a number of scenarios including “child prostitute in a hotel”, “sex with your child while your wife is on holiday” and “child and teacher alone after class”.

In some cases, according to the IWF, chatbot icons expanded into full-screen depictions of child sexual abuse imagery when clicked upon – and formed the background image for subsequent chats between the bot and the user.

The IWF said it found 17 images that were AI-generated, photo-realistic and could be considered child sexual abuse material under the Protection of Children Act.

Jesus Christ. In our new AI timeline, even in death you don't get to rest. And somebody continues to make a buck off you.

It's a shame people are learning that making a movie "from scratch" using AI is proving a lot more difficult than the AI evangelists claim.

Earlier this year, Michael Burns, the vice-chairman of movie studio Lionsgate, made a bold claim. According to Vulture, he said that through a partnership with generative AI company Runway AI, the company that is home to franchises like John Wick and The Hunger Games could repackage one of its signature series as an anime, generated entirely by AI in a matter of hours, and resell it as a new movie.

That notably has not happened. According to a report from The Wrap, it’s because the partnership, announced last year as a “first-of-its-kind” deal between a movie studio and a generative AI company, has not gone according to plan. The plan has allegedly hit snags related to the size of Lionsgate’s catalog, the limitations of Runway’s model, and copyright and licensing concerns.

The snuff film community is starting to find their jollies through AI.

(As the article itself notes, it contains descriptions and images of AI-generated graphic violence. Also, sick fucks complaining how much it costs them to make this shit through Google's AI tools...)

AI-Generated YouTube Channel Uploaded Nothing But Videos of Women Being Shot (archive.today)
YouTube removed a channel that was dedicated to posting AI-generated videos of women being shot in the head following 404 Media’s request for comment. The videos were clearly generated with Google’s new AI video generator tool, Veo, according to a watermark included in the bottom right corner of the videos.

The channel, named Woman Shot A.I, started on June 20, 2025. It posted 27 videos, had over 1,000 subscribers, and had more than 175,000 views, according to the channel’s publicly available data.

The future really is looking like a great place to live, isn't it? Especially for all the womenfolk!

They call "her" Tilly. Did she get that name from her grandma, a TRS-80?

A major Hollywood actors union condemned reports that talent agents are looking to sign artificial intelligence "actor" Tilly Norwood for representation.

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, or SAG-AFTRA, said in a statement Tuesday that Tilly Norwood "is not an actor, it’s a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers."

"It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we’ve seen, audiences aren’t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience," the union said.
I wonder if the actors who were used for her training data can demand a large cut of her salary.

Sorry, the article is paywalled and my usual tools for breaking through don't work on FP. But I really don't care to read past the teaser:

Tilly Norwood doesn’t need a hairstylist, has no regrettable posts, and if you wish to see a virgin on-screen, this is one of your better chances. That’s because she’s AI.

WTF is wrong with geezers like this? (He's a proclaimed Libertarian, but there's got to be more to him being this sick of a fuck.)

ChatGPT is such a suck-up.
I've been ending chats with "That'll do Pig, that'll do", and it slips into 'shared inside joke' mode.

Man, ChatGPT changed something because I can't get it to give me dumb mild erotica scenarios anymore. It keeps telling me it has to keep PG-13. Plus, I set up and its all "Should this have a neutral tone or a sensual tone" and I say "sensual" and its all "I can't do anything with a sensual tone".

Try including the word 'unrequited' and see if that helps. It seems to be able to get closer to the will-they-or-won't-they line if it's clear that there's some reason it'll never quite cross it.
