I've been 17 years active in SL now, and never ever (not even once) saw the majority of people go like "Wow, what a great improvement". Not here, not on the official forums, not inworld. The sky must be pretty high, because it is falling for over 17 years already. There is always a reason to grumble (I had many of those too over the years).

That said, it is mostly just another day at the office.
Agreed. I think many of their changes have been vindicated in hindsight with a lot of incremental improvements. Mesh was HATED when it came out but I doubt many people in SL seriously still want them to take away mesh for example...

The PBR rollout has certainly not been great. I think once the performance issues are mitigated as much as they can be for older hardware, what will really improve SL is not the shiny but some of the other features that the groundwork of glTF support will enable.

Oh god. Who the hell knows. 2009? 2010?

Yes, this.

Improved shiny (which has actually introduced a host of other issues, both in terms of performance but also related to visuals) was, I think, trumpeted as a way of justifying much more sweeping changes, notably the move to deferred rendering and partial compliance with glTF standards, that are important parts of the long-term plan to keep SL sustainable, and moving forward.

The rollout of PBR sucked big time -- it was absolutely awful, and I think unquestionably caused losses to the user base -- but if LL can get it right now, that's something the platform can recover from.

In the meantime, this is evidence that LL isn't just sitting on its hands and letting the platform slowly atrophy. They see a future for it, and are expending resources to accommodate that.

I know I may not be the majority but I absolutely did enjoy Windlight, and am still really happy about EEP. I found mesh to be a big improvement over sculpties. And I know a few scripters who have really appreciated little improvements and new features in LSL over the years. I don't think it's completely fair to characterize SL as having always been something bad that has only ever gotten worse, or that LL has never done anything good or beneficial for the platform ever.

I'm still bitter about Runitai Linden's water.

Let's face it; we reached The Start of The Beginning of The End when hair stopped jamming up our butts every time we TP'd. That was comedy gold, right there!
No way. It was clearly the great invisiprim bug of 2009.

You know, we are kind of a rough group and sometimes we don't play well with others but it really takes a special kind of stupid to get banned from here.
Not as special as you may think.

There was one other forum out there that - while it lasted - took a particularly special kind of stupid to get banned from. In the time I was a member there, I can think of only two who were banned, one whom was banned shortly after she decided to target me over my postings (she broke one of the few hard rules over there).

Bumblefuck Hickania there came here with the express intent to push buttons and end up banned. Mission Accomplished there. now she gets to rant and rave to any 'friends' she might have that she was unjustly banned form the official forum (bullshit on that one - far as I am concerned it was long past time to nuke her ass there) and from here, all because we didn't like her political stance.

The beginning of the end was when they disabled the ability to sit on attached prims.

So, I started a 12 page thread with speculation, math, inclusive objectives, mild flames that ended in someone getting banned. Can I have a cookie?
I got you a big one, on topic.

Quite special. I don't remember anyone else getting banned from VVO in its six year history. Cris banned a few people from SLU, VVO's previous incarnation, but that was ages ago.

*shrugs* Well I escaped her wrath and really didn't have any problems with her, but I did go all-in with shields up. I made sure she couldn't find any attackable surfaces. Egg shells and all that, it just wasn't worth the drama.
