Okey dokey!

Bart's test uploading the site's resources and importing of the database went well, with only a few bumps (ongoing issues will be due to legacy Xenforo plugins, which we'll discuss). Your admin team is in agreement that we're ready for the big move from hosting.com. Before the week is out, we want to
  1. Briefly shut down access for everyone to virtualverse.one.
  2. Relocate the current (live) setup to Bart's server.
  3. Point virtualverse.one at Bart's server.
  4. Take a couple of breaths.
  5. Turn virtualverse.one back on at the new location.
We hope the entire procedure doesn't last more than an hour or two, but considering this is happening on the internet, expect it lasting up to twelve hours...or so.

If something goes wrong during the move and we're unable to resolve it within that timeframe, we'll repoint virtualverse.one back at hosting.com, and regroup here.

So now is your chance to speak up If you have input, concerns or worries. So please do.

Issues about Xenforo plugins

We (as in the admin team) would like to set up and stabilize the copy of Xenforo we have now, and evaluate our options (call it our Alternative Forum Evaluation phase, which will happen right after the BIG MOVE phase), before upgrading Xenforo, and plugins presently in use.

This means we could lose functionality on some of the plugins during this phase, if any require more than residing on the same domain.

(How long the AFE phase lasts is up to us.)

It's important we know what you think about doing this.

1) I'm selfishly relieved to be a passenger. I've done migrations in the past, most went just fine with minor after-the-fact Oshit mending. Some were punted and tried again later. The planning, testing, and stress is something I'm happy to have washed my hands of. *THANK*YOU* for taking on this project!

2) If plugins break they break. The only thing I'm pretty much not flexible about is dark-theme. The only black-on-white text my eyes can tolerate long is the printed on dead-tree kind. =}

3) Thanks for the outage heads up and good luck!!! =D
