Kpop Demon Hunters continues to upend the animation industry. After explosive viewer numbers on Netflix (and on music charts), largely due to word-of-mouth, Netflix is releasing the movie to theaters for a one-day sing-along event.

KPop Demon Hunters Is Heading To Theaters After Breaking A Bunch Of Streaming Records, But There's A Catch

I have my ticket! And a good thing I figured out how to order through Fandango (first time) because there were only a few seats left for the afternoon showing. The closest theater I could find is over the state line in Maryland, but this may be my only chance to see KPDH on the big screen.

Yay! I think I watched it about the same time you did last week. I love me some ass-kicking magical girls. After watching I logged into SL to see if there were any KPDH outfits. Yes, yes there is. I haven't taken pictures yet. I also haven't bought the album yet, which I will. I want a HUNTR/X wand thing to go with my BlackPink hammer.

No real surprises here, other than the appearance of a slow to grasp the zeitgeist Netflix.

It's been years since I've stepped foot in a movie theater, so I would never have bought a ticket for a movie titled Kpop Demon Hunters, no matter how good the reviews. In fact, I would never have even bothered reading the reviews.

Now, however, I would absolutely buy a ticket for Kpop Demon Hunters 2. And in the meantime, I'll probably keep my Netflix subscription running after the end of Wednesday (which is the only reason I picked it up again) so I can watch KPDH at least a few more times this year.

So a streaming-to-theater connection worked really really well for this one film, which has maximum replay magic. I'm not sure how well it would work outside this very narrow success case.

I want a Derpy or Sussie something’ somethin’
The plush Derpy is sold out on the Netflix shop, despite the insanely high price. I see others listed for sale at Walmart. I'm doing my best to resist because I do not need more things. My goal is to have fewer things and I have so far to go in meeting that goal. Arggg!

It's showing Sat and Sun here in NM, five times each, and though there's a good number of ticket purchases already it's not even close to half sold out. Just the NM way of acting 'whatever' to things that are trendy elsewhere I guess. Seen snippets of it on YouTube and am tempted to see it in a theater, but still more leaning towards just buying it on disk like I did with Wednesday (which I binge watched twice already).

I randomly stumbled across the film and watched it on July 20th. I found it oddly a lot more enjoyable than I expected. I didn't expect others to find it something they'd be interested in so I didn't mention having seen it and liking it.

There wasn't much singing in the Kpop Demon Hunters sing-along event I attended this past week. My expectation for a 21st century Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe was destined for disappointment. And the sound system was SO LOUD that I had to cover my ears for the entire movie, but the wide screen was awesome. I don't get out much these days, because not much tempts me, but this got me up and going (at least until I reached the theater, where I promptly sat down again).

Sony messed up.... They didn't have ay faith that this show would do so well after producing it.. and sold it to netflix for a cut of the price...
They still hold some of the rights and is working on producing sequels and spin offs.... but i bet someone is kicking themselves in the ass for selling it...

I think we can cut them a bit of slack for that. I mean, after catching the previews for it, I certainty felt that I and many people I know would enjoy it. But to imagine Beebo falling in love with it?? No witch let alone a Sony producer has a crystal-ball that powerful!

Watched it last night. I am not a fan of musicals and my musical taste is a fair bit dark, but this was just so much fun. I want a Tiger and Crow sequel so badly.

Your Idol has to be one of the best villain songs ever written.

As I learned from the Korean fans generously posting cultural explanations, the tiger and magpie (pretty close to a crow) duo is a common motif in traditional folk art. The tiger is portrayed as goofy and foolish as a commentary on the Korean nobility, whereas the magpie represents the wisdom and cleverness of the common people. Together they've come to symbolize warding off of evil (the tiger) and the bringing of good news (the magpie).

And my own interpretation of the flower pot episode is that whereas regular cats topple things over, this is a comic twist in that he's always trying to put things upright instead.

The reason I usually don't like musicals is the way many use songs as exposition and emotional points means they often tell and don't show. The songs in KPDH are integrated into the action in a way that compliments and heightens the action instead of replacing it. All of the key songs are perfect for the characters at that point in the story. And they are bangers.
