How Many Bones Would You Break to Get Laid?
“Incels” are going under the knife to reshape their faces, and their dating prospects.

I haven't read any of the scientific literature, because I'm just not that interested in child development, but that's pretty much what is meant by "arrested development". There's an arc of emotional growth for a child that goes from the entirely self-centric viewpoint of an infant to the ability to see yourself from another perspective and to project yourself into another person's worldview. Some children don't go all the way -- whether from childhood traumas or some innate limitation of the brain. They stall out and are incapable of this more complex emotional/social thought.I can’t really understand the payoff of this pointless superiority but they seem to be stuck at the emotional maturity level of a young child...It all looks like NPD.
They always remind me of the song in which a scathing putdown is unleashed by young Janine when her creepy cousin, Dupree, wonders how she can resist him for "just one more day."A disproportionate number of the incels who've posted pictures of themselves are actually kind of good looking. It's the thing between their ears that ruins everything...
Inherently involuntarily celibate or IncHell for short? Is there a name for those who have the full trifecta? Repulsive appearance, repulsive personality, and forever alone? =^-^=

Perhaps, to the incels, the charming ugly men who can get dates don't count because their dates aren't "Stacys".A disproportionate number of the incels who've posted pictures of themselves are actually kind of good looking. It's the thing between their ears that ruins everything.
My entire life I've known ugly men who can get dates because they are charming. I'm just baffled that incels deny their existence. I once got into an argument about this at the foreveralone subreddit a while back. I posted a legit research article about the poor correlation between men's looks and dating and he responded that my source was way out of date, and then found a magazine poll that was a year older than my actual journal article. This reminded me of a meme about "I don't have confirmation bias! It says right here on page 26 of google search results!"

I missed the last vocab-update, those were all new to me.“Social media and ease of access/exposure to plenty of top 3% chaddy hunks has literally set the bar much higher for men,” wrote one user. Body dysmorphia “was invented by oldcel psychologists who grew up in the 50s and had NO problem to find a looksmatched or even better-looking wife,”
But but I was just looking!Fuck all of you inhuman beings that decide that your life is worth more than an others.
I think the concept for which he is blindly trying to grasp is something like this insight from Yuval Noah Harari's Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind:I missed the last vocab-update, those were all new to me.
Think I'll leave updates turned off, I'm not liking the direction their use of language is going.![]()
To be sure, those of us who were born in the 1950s saw quite a lot of movie stars, athletes, models and entertainers on TV, billboards and in movies, but images presented by these media were nowhere so ubiquitous as are the images on our laptops and smartphones, and neither were we expected to try to compete with them on a notionally level playing field by presenting carefully curated versions of ourselves on social media, thus setting ourselves up (at least in our own minds) for failure because we simply don't all look like supermodels or actors, and certainly exposing ourselves to the risk of cruel mockery by our peers. If you were an eighteen-year-old youth in a small village 5,000 years ago you’d probably think you were good-looking because there were only fifty other men in your village and most of them were either old, scarred and wrinkled, or still little kids. But if you are a teenager today you are a lot more likely to feel inadequate. Even if the other guys at school are an ugly lot, you don’t measure yourself against them but against the movie stars, athletes and supermodels you see all day on television, Facebook and giant billboards.
I think "incel"is short for "involuntary celibate", not "intentional celibate".Intentionally celibate human being have the ownus decision on the guy that decides not to have sex. Whatever his reasoning it’s HIS decision. Ffs everyone has to work at relationships. Arbitrarily deciding that people owe you a sex life is selfish, vacuous and in the case of heteronormative makes pretty misogynistic.
Fuck all of you inhuman beings that decide that your life is worth more than an others.
Yup, as soon as they realise it’s involuntary, it becomes more and more intentional with every excuse they make.I think "incel"is short for "involuntary celibate", not "intentional celibate".
Of course what they don't realize it's that they are at least helping to choose their own celibacy by being so toxic.
I am glad I was born when I was. I did most of my stupid stuff before the Internet became a thing. But you're exactly right: Whereas before, if you did something stupid, maybe 20 people witnessed it and spread it to their friends and, in most cases, it was forgotten about in a matter of days. Nowadays, if you do something stupid, at least one person caught it with their smartphone and posted it on Youtube (or whatever kids are using these days) to be witnessed by millions for all eternity. The stakes for being young and dumb, or committing a major fashion faux pas, are enormously high, and can haunt you for the rest of your life.Of all the many mortifications of being a teenager that I recall, at least the embarrassment of a serious fashion, grooming or makeup disaster would fade soon enough -- just as soon another one of my peer-group did something equally disastrous, in fact, like often about 20 minutes later. It wasn't preserved online for what must feel like potential world-wide inspection and mockery.
