Holy crap!

Edit: okay, I guess the forum doesn't unfurl TikTok videos very well. It's a compilation of what I'm assuming is Milton coverage. Some pretty scary stuff!
Yeah, probably put together by an aggregator program harvesting other folks' videos to create clickbait. Now they can have AI do a voiceover for it, too. It seems to be a bit of a plague on TikTok and YouTube -- some effing AI seems to have modeled its narrator voice on the late Ernie Anderson ("Roots!" among many other recognizable voiceovers that voiceover artists like me are in awe of...) only they missed Ernie's humor and heart.

One hilarious comment, though: "My parents had to walk through that to get to school." :ROFLMAO:

In line with this observation...

Just like the fire ravished Maui, developers are doing the same thing in Florida. This article happens to be after hurricane Ian, but only because it's too soon after Helene and Milton for the vultures to start picking the bones.

Our friendly little Orlando mouse [not], is amongst the worst offenders in Central Florida.

And the scammers are chomping at the bit, ready to charge the second that the hurricane is over to make even more peoples lifes more miserable. We really, really need a "Beekeeper", please Kamila, send us a Beekeeper. (If you haven't seen the movie "The Beekeeper", you really should.)

Florida officials warn of contractor scams after Milton damage
From CNN's Josh Campbell

There’s an unfortunate reality for victims trying to pick up the pieces after a deadly storm: scammers moving in as a massive storm moves out.

Officials in Florida are urging residents to be on guard against financial predators in the wake of deadly Hurricane Milton.

“Many areas in the county have incurred severe property damage because of back-to-back impacts from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton,” Pinellas County Consumer Protection said in a public advisory Thursday, warning residents “to be cautious when hiring someone to make repairs.”

“Watch out for ‘fly-by-night’ contractors who take deposits and do little or no work,” the advisory stated. “Avoid dealing with anyone soliciting work door-to-door; take the opportunity to check them out first.”

Authorities also cautioned residents to be wary of contractors who ask for advance payment for services or insist that extensive repairs require no permit. They recommended dealing only with licensed and insured contractors.
Officials also had a warning for people seeking to help those impacted by the devastating storms: do your research.
“Do not judge an organization based solely on its name,” the Pinellas County advisory said. “Many organizations have names that sound like those of reputable organizations but may be fraudulent.

Florida consumer protection teams recommended prospective donors “ask for a copy of the charity’s financial report to determine how much of your contribution is going toward the cause and how much goes to administrative and fundraising costs.”
Actually scam contractors is Florida 24/7, the only difference after a hurricane is that all the scammers roll in from every other state in the US too.

These people all seemed to be up here in Illinois a few months back. We were getting almost daily people trying to sell a new roof with the "promise" that Imsurance would (probably cover it) due to a storm a few months back.

Like 75% of the houses on the street here had roofers it felt like, probably more like 25%. Who knows if its legit. We may or may not need a new roof, but I can find some company that has a building local to do it, when I can afford it, thanks.

Every time there is a storm that is harsh in my area, up to and including hurricanes that don't even hit us, I get lots of "we're in your area today, and been working with your neighbours and noticed you may have damage to your roof." scammers ringing my bell. Like hell, of the four houses that are adjacent to my property, 3 are 2 stories, 1 of those has a huge tree that blocks any view to my roof, and the single 1 story house is a rental and currently is rented to some true white trash that ain't going to let you on their roof. Like hell you were on any roof, FOAD.
