I realize it's a personal taste thing, but the fact that the people in Gor World (or whatever the planet's name is) are ruled by giant talking grasshoppers is like the one thing about Gor that I think is great.
I believe the planet's name is Gor. And it's "on the opposite side of the sun" from earth, which is "why" "we didn't know about it".

If I recall correctly, I stopped reading the series with the above book. Which is the third book in the series. First book was an okay, not great, not that good, space adventure novel that seemed to be a take-off/rip-off on that Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Series became aggressively more "women should be slaves; in fact, if they get in control, they need to be ripped from the throne and have slave chains slapped on them and/or killed" as the series progressed).

I have no idea if Gor is still a thing in SL. I was never in SL Gor (or RL Gor, for that matter).

So could one easily enslave an entire Gor Sim by getting a few people in bug avatars to invade it?
I believe Second Citizen people, or possible some people who migrated to SLU, did that. Went to some of the sims in a Priest-King avatar. I think they were immediately ejected and banned.

ETA: There used to be a Priest-King avatar on the second life marketplace (possibly the marketplace before the current one), but I do not see it on there now.

I'm vaguely curious if anyone actually tried reading
It's hilarious (intentionally so)

I rushed down, my sword drawn, ready to face death before I would surrender the hotel-stone of Er to these savage, bejeweled marauders. As I and the guardsmen rushed forth, the dread war song came again to our ears.

My kajirae were always puttin' him down.
Down! Down!
They said he came from the wrong side of town.
They told me that he was bad,
but I knew that he was sad.
And that's why I fell for...
The Leader of the Pack!
Read it here

I personally can't get off if I feel like the man respects me, so I'm there all the time. ...I'm joking of course, but I am quite sure GOR role players are still around in force. I hear about them from time to time though I've never been to their sims personally.

As a more serious topic of discussion (not specifically about GOR), I do think a lot of feminists underestimate how many quiet, ultra submissive straight women are around. Most men who laugh at those crazy feminists are not backwards incels, they are married with kids to women who kind of encourage their belief that of course men should be in charge of everything. The feminist outreach I see online seems to be laser focused on men, and just takes it for granted that women all agree with them... but that's not true. I think progressives should try harder to reach out to conservative women.

...and now I've helped hijack my own thread! This has nothing to do with what I originally started it for, but that's okay.

All I know of Gor, as I didn't go in for that, is that a very good friend of mine in SL was rather concerned that it sometimes led to real life things going on; as in some Gor man would encourage his gal (s) to come live with him and sometimes that might lead to bad circumstances.

I dunno, as I never was interested in such things, in the slightest. Might be something to toy about with in SL, for some folks, in the vein of exploring sides of themselves they normally do not. That, alone, isn't a bad thing. It's a bit like playing with fire for some?

IIRC, we have a few members here who HAVE played around with it. I'd be curious what their take on it is. Harmless role play? Dangerous in the hands of those who might take it too far? Hell if I know.

I've not specifically done "GOR" role play that references the books or anything but I've done plenty of rough role plays that are probably similar in all the ways you mean. I will just say I maintain an ultra strict separation between RL and SL for this reason... I view it as harmless in the virtual world but have serious reservations about ever bringing such things into the real world for obvious reasons.

Related to this, I'm honestly baffled by how many people on sex sims post RL pictures of themselves.... I have a serious corporate career that could be very threatened if my employees associated me with that, lol. I was raised to think the internet was dangerous, because it was new at the time... now that it's not so new anymore, I think people forget that it's still dangerous!

One of my oldest SL friends is, or was, seriously into Gor, and was one of their better-known maker of silks and suchlike.

From how she describes it, it's a whole lot of different subsets of RP -- some people are primarily into combat and capture RP vs each other or with panther girls, some are into master/slave rp, and some into just freeform improv RP, which she usually turned into comedy one way or another (Oh, forgive this stupid girl, Master! When you said such-and-such, she foolishly thought you meant to do whatever she's just done that you're complaining about).
