I'm curious to see if those creators that are 100% gacha sellers adapt, or don't get the point and start charging 2000-5000 for a black thong (because that is how much people normally paid/rolled/pulled to get one).
Very well possible.
As someone wrote on the SL forums: The next thing will be collectables.
The rare ones will go at high prices.

Already have a plan to adapt, I would sometimes do gachas (to make it fairer I would allow any users to trade a gacha of one rarity for one of the same rarity so if you had a common blue box and wanted a common pink box you could insert the voucher to trade. I also had a no duplicates option for users. I also made each spin something like 50L$) I would do a gacha for fun events for my store and it would be content I normally would not make. So a lot of people loved it and even at very low prices per spin it would make bank. I will probably just make slightly more expensive limited-time-only items that still use vouchers but its you are getting this and you can redeem it now or resell it later.

They already kinda do, the black thong will be a fatpack exclusive for the new releases then 😿

Now this was some good news!
For creators relying on selling truckloads of duplicate items to people 'needing' the ultra rare, it might come as a nasty surprise, but then think again.... way back, there was still plenty of business for talented creators.
And remember.... might even win (back) some business from people like me, who refused to play that game.

The analogy to the RL packs of trading cards.... well.... as far as I recall from my school-days - and that is MANY years ago - it ended at least twice with total bans due to fighting, cheating and double-dealing.

Innula and a couple of actual creators are some of the main voices of reason. There are SEVERAL practicing their drama skills, for sure.

Gachas could be fun, but really only when it was new and still a bit of a novelty. I don't think this crackdown is surprising, really. It was bound to come sooner or later.

Linden Lab have announced a policy change regarding gachas in Second Life:

"Due to a changing regulatory climate, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to sunset a very popular sales mechanism for content in Second Life. It’s widely known as "gacha", and is defined by a chance-based outcome as a result of a payment... To mitigate the impact to those affected, we are giving a 30-day grace period, until midnight SLT on August 31. After that time, selling content via gacha machines will no longer be permitted in Second Life."

Hallelujah, there IS a Goddess after all! You know how I am about Gacha: "Gacha is Satan, not Satin and we want Satin, not Satan. Hail Satin!"

SEVEN years I've been wanting them gone. SEVEN!

As I said there: Think about it, while you can trade your gacha items, how many turns of the wheel do you have to do to get what you want? And how much would that thing have cost you if you had just bought it in a store? When I want something, I want what I want when I want it, which is usually...NOW. I don't want to have to put 1500L$ into a machine to get something I'd only pay 350 for. I don't want to have to wait for a trade so that I "might" get what I really want. I want it now. Not later, now, and at a fair price....now. I don't want to have to go to a lag heavy region and wait for a machine, I just want to go in, and get what I want...perhaps even WHILE shopping on marketplace at the same time. Yes, I'm one of those people who have actually paid full price for items that were in Lucky Chairs...because I didn't want to have to wait.

I have no idea how many times over the years I've looked at a nice outfit at an event, realized it was gacha.

And sighed and walked away, because I'm not dancing that dance.
So many times, and felt a little disgust the few times when I did cave in. All I want is single colors and fatpacks at reasonable prices.

I visit the official forums around once per year for an event such as this. I see Prokofy Neva is still around and composed some sort of word salad in response to Innula.
You said "You Know Who's" name! Voldemort!

Of course that one is still around - Linden Lab refuses to ban them permanently from the Forum.
