That's great news... but Disney has a long hard road ahead to win back the hearts and minds it lost.

I would not at all be surprised that a lot of people signed up over the covid lockdown, and just kept it going because cancelling requires effort and commitment. Easier to just put it off another month, maybe something new/good will be on.... if not this month, maybe next.

But now that they've made the effort to cancel, they know that they just let it languish there unused sometimes for months at a time, and they'll be wary of re-upping just for one 'must see show/movie'.

I would be surprised if even half of the cancellations returned within a year. Even if the total number of subscribers who boycotted over this was at or below 5%, that's still a huge financial hit.

They need to find a binding lasting to show that they won't just roll over and do this again. Maybe by committing a percent of their annual profits over the next 10 years, and some number of pro-bono hours of their own lawyers to the ACLU or some such to ensure that other tyrannical attacks on our first amendment rights are met with funded and capable lawyers.

I didn't cancel over Kimmel, but also I only have D+ and Hulu because I had a $3/month deal, then when I went to cancel after it ended, they offered it to me again (like a month ago).

What probably matters even more than this is that Disney pissed off EVERYONE at Hollywood. If Kimmel can get fired for correctly pointing out that the right-wing grief over Charlie Kirk's death is purely performative, then nobody is safe.
