Never been a sports fan. ...but it was long my understanding that a LARGE amount of the draw is political and social rituals that have little to do with the game itself. It's very "normal" to be a fan of the big sports in your country and that's much of the appeal one way or another.

Saving up for a World Cup is nothing new for die-hard soccer fan Paul Marshall.

In 2014 and 2018, the Southern California native made trips to Brazil and Russia for the festivities. In 2022, he spent the entirety of the competition in Qatar, from the opener to the final.

Then, in 2026, the grand celebration came to his own backyard.

"It was a shock when the prices came out," said Marshall about the World Cup with 104 matches split between the U.S., Mexico and Canada. "It's like three to four times [more], then when you look at matches like the final, it's even more, it's like eight times more.

"It was a shocker."

On FIFA's resale marketplace, in which soccer's organizing body takes an additional cut from transaction fees, prices have soared into four to six figures for consumers. There have even been tickets listed for more than $2 million. By pricing out ordinary fans, FIFA risks hurting the image of the tournament.

I'd be shocked if a world cup 2030 doesn't happen. ...but I'm also willing to bet heavily that the USA won't be trusted to host it again for many years. I'm also curious if conservative media has covered this much at all.... they are usually mum with anything that is so embarrassing to their narrative.

This is Uli Hoeneß, 74 years old. He's the godfather of 1. FC Bayern München and comes from humble beginnings: his father was a butcher. He wanted his son to have a stable job, instead he became a soccer player. He's also the owner of a sausage factory today. Today he's a German soccer legend, and one of the most influential people in that area.

Most of his career he played for Bayern München. In 1972 he became European and 1974 World champion. In 1979 he had to end his career due to a bad knee, and became manager of Bayern München. He is one of the most influential figures there, who made this club what it is today. In 2009 he became its president, today he's honorary president but still very influential. Only Franz Beckenbauer surpassed his influence.

His estimated net worth is around 300 million Euros.

Hoeneß is talking here about the soccer championship in America, and criticises it harshly. He's telling he was invited by a friend, but is unwilling to spend 1-3000$ for a ticket. He's also criticising that the streets to the stadium alone will be charged with around 150$.

He's stating that soccer should be affordable for people with not so much money, so normal working class poeple, and that Giovanni Infantino should have intervened to prevent those prices. And rich people then should be charged as seen fit. In his opinion normal people cannot afford to attend the championship in America due to too high prices, which he finds sad.

So he's looking forward to great games but thinks the atmosphere in the stadiums will suck.
