Seriously? Let's add clueless, arrogant billionaire and contempt for users to his list of flaws. This is not how you retain customers. Customer service 101: Do not insult existing or potential customers.

I assume he thinks the customers he loses will be replaced by edgelords who appreciate this type of attitude and may not mind paying $8/month to be insulted. Good luck with that.

Sunday tweets from Elon. It's like a church sermon, only the priest is an even more arrogant prick. And you can't toss less than $8 into the basket.

Elon Musk said Sunday that free staff lunches at Twitter's San Francisco headquarters were costing more than $400 per meal because 'almost no one' was in the office.

He said that according to badge-in records, average occupancy in the office over the last 12 months was below 10%, peaking at 25%.
An ex-employee claims lunches were between $20-$25, which sounds far more correct to me. But whether $20 or $400, I'm certain it doesn't cost any different due to "almost no one" being in the office. The cost is the cost.

Obviously, Musks goal is to end handouts to the staff.

Twitter spends $13 million a year on food service at its San Francisco HQ, Musk said.

Oh yeah, making staff pay for their meals will definitely get Twitter out of the red.

Twitter is a software and servers company? Does/did Elon not know what business he was buying? I mean, when I think of Twitter, I immediately think "software & servers company".

ETA: One of the thing mentioned in the comments (actually probably main thing) is that the above email looks exactly like a phising attempt. Therefore 90% of the company reports it as phising, instead of clicking yes. 90% of the company given 3 month severance (or, conversely, Elon is playing more mind games and he fires anyone who fell for the "obvious" phising email).

Well, in my opinion Musk is adding the uneaten meals to the cost of the eaten meal, meaning: let's say we've got 10 meals, each is 15 US$. If 10 people eat these 10 meals, then the cost of each meal is 15 US$, but if only 2 eat 2 meals, then the cost is 75 US$/meal. Something like that.

But hey, he should just handover the stuff to a soup kitchen and bingo, problems solved. Or introduce a system where people need to preorder free stuff in the canteen, whatever. I mean there are enough organizations around who have figured out how to run a big canteen efficiently decades ago, it cannot be that hard and is for sure no rocket science.

BTW Musk has a new nickname at Twitter, namely: CE0 - "code efficiency zero!" Now I just wonder how long it takes until Diana Thirst is getting fired for making this public... her timeline is a gold mine of jokes about Musk and such.

Posted elsewhere in response to the hardcore message:

The fact that Musk thinks Twitter is a software and server company is why he is shedding billions of dollars. Twitter software isn't all that innovative. It does take a lot of work to run a microblog site with the volume of Twitter, but it isn't like creating self-driving cars (which his other company is failing at).

The value of Twitter is, or rapidly was, its community. He doesn't seem to grasp the social part of Social Media, and that's why he rolled out a subscription Blue Check program with disastrous results. The blue check was valuable because you couldn't buy it. Lots of people want to find Stephen King. Very few people want to find my account. Nobody wants to find Steven King (blue check mark). But if paying $8 a month prioritizes my posts and the fake King over Stephen King's, people will leave the platform.

The coding part of allowing people to buy a blue check was simple. They pushed it out in under a week. The social part of letting people buy a blue check was a disaster that led to impersonation of accounts, hid content people wanted to find, and destroyed the trust that Twitter spent years building in the community of users that joined Twitter to find content from authors, entertainers, journalists, and brands.

Well it's always amusing to me, that Tesla in fact is delivering roughly the same performance in terms of "full self driving" a German researcher called Prof. Dr. Ernst Dickmann from the Bundeswehr Universität in Munich, one of the pioneers on autonomous driving, was already able to reach in 1995 using only video cameras. His experimental car was named "Vamp", a run off the mill Mercedes 500 SEL equipped with extra hardware then by his research team.

This guy here who discussed Twitter's performance with Elon on Twitter was fired:

Later Frohnhoefer tweeted about his own stunt this:

Sasha Salomon was also fired.

Well, I can understand the outrage about it. But they also all made a major mistake: no company will like it if you are discussing internal topics with your boss in public. This always will put you on the black list. If you want to discuss internal matters, then do so internally.
