You got me wondering:Sometimes I pronounce it "mei mei" when I want to sound Chinese. ...
It was invented by Dawkins in the '70s, it's completely documented in every detail, we probably know more about the origin of this word than pretty much any other word in the English language. Dawkins is typically salty about how his term, in poetic analogy with genes, has forked off a mutant spur and been domesticated.I think its short for memetic or something, somits probably actually "meem", but I always assumed the "may may" thing comes from the way Japan would pronounce "Meme" and weeb culture.

Good. Most likely people aren't going to cough up their credit card info even for a dollar.Twitter is rolling out a test baloon in New Zealand and the Philippines: new accounts have to pay 1 US$/year there from now on if they want to be able to tweet something. Otherwise it is read access only.
Musk says this is to combat spam bots and alike. Many though think this is a miserable attempt to generate new revenue, since Twitter's ad revenue decreased by 60% since the takeover.
Seriously, I value giving my credit card info to Musk at like +40 dollars a month since I don't trust their security policies not to get hacked.... so the 1 dollar charge is a rounding error. No way am I giving them my credit card for any actual charge for that shitty site.Good. Most likely people aren't going to cough up their credit card info even for a dollar.
Note that there is no mention of twitter possibly leaving the EU in this article. I believe that is because that news came out a day after this article was published.![]()
