I read the first book and although it held my interest enough to read through to the end, I was disinclined to read more. There were things about Herbert's writing that bothered me. I didn't think it through enough to enumerate specifics, but the patriarchal and anti -gay aspects must have been in there. It was also rather unrelentingly grim.
