I just finished watching it right now.
He was way cooler in his 5 minutes than his entire run in Inhumans.
Ha! Also he was wearing his fork and traditional outfit, including the arm fan-wing things!
Also Reed. Does this confirm Kranzynazwhatever as Reed later?
I hope so, but I would have preferred traditional beardless Reed.
As for the film, I wasn't real impressed by the film. It just feels souless. Some interesting concepts burried in slightly dodge CGI.
You know what really stood out as dodgy for me CGI wise? When suburban possessed Wanda left her house. Don't know how they messed that up. And the Kamar-Taj battle wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be with that many mages.
Speaking of CGI, why does it feel like everyone has the same powers these days. Sparkley colored auras and energy beams.
They don't, except Marvel Studios is doing the Show Don't Tell thing, so they feel like they probably feel they have to show powers in use in a way film watchers who are unfamiliar with the comics will understand, rather than going for a more comic accurate look.
"How do we show America Chavez has super strength?"
"We could show her punching through the poly carbonate"
"Yeah, but some viewers might not realize that's due to super strength, lets add some sparkly aura to her hand."
It's probably for the same reason that Marvel altered Ms Marvels powers to make them more glowy/flashy rather than her stretchy/shapeshifting/embiggening in the comics.
Like ok, there is an energy monster guarding that book,
The first fiery monster wasn't guarding it, it was sent by Wanda to capture America Chavez before ponytail strange and Chavez could get to it.
later a different tentacle monster shows up, that was kind of cool though,
It looked like Shuma-Gorath! I laughed at the sound it's eye made when it was plucked out of it.
then oh no, Wanda is evil and her only defining characteristic is being a mother now?,
There was a comic storyline where she went cray-cray when she lost her fake kids, this movie's plot was probably inspired by that.
now we are in another world and these Illuminati guys feel a little sinister
They are somewhat sinister, in a "we know better and are going to keep everyone in the dark" way. Also that wasn't the cinematic x-men Professor X, that version was based on the 90's animated series version! The x-men animated theme played and his chair is the gold version that was used in the animated series.
but nope, surprise, Bro Mordo is evil too
Never trust a Mordo. I laughed when Strange finally heard his first name, Karl. And I also laughed at his response to Black Bolt's name...Blackagar Boltagon. Yes, that really is his name. It was the 60's era of comic names, okay? Betty Brant! Happy Hogan! Dum Dum Dugan! J Jonah Jameson. Also a bunch of characters with the last name "Marko"
(really feels like there was supposed to be a movie focusing on Strange and Mordo between this and the first movie),
That's what I was expecting them to do.
That was a little rambling, mostly to get the point across that the movie felt kind of rambling.
Rambling's a good word, though I expected more Multiverses! And to finally see the MCU become integrated in the way the actual comic book Universe 616 is. The MCU is not really 616 but 199999, apparently 838 thinks the MCU is 616.
where someone who really feels like one of the Eternals shows up (I looked up who it was, thats not the point). She has the same sort of over bright armor and like every new hero, the same glowey energy based powers.
The sorceress Clea, Niece of the Dread Dormammu. Recognized her right off because of the outfit based on her traditional comic costume, and white hair. The reason her outfit has the Eternals look is because it's a Jack Kirby thing. His art style is unmistakable so his costumes/locales/technology/power effects have a samey look, easily recognizable. His villain designs are even worse and are MORE samey. Blunt gonk faces on blocky bodies. At least Mordo got a better outfit than his traditional one, which is silly looking
Check out the section on Kirby on this TVtropes page:
Hawkeye: David Aja pokes fun at himself over this in an issue of Hawkeye. Clint gets mistaken for Iron Fist (whose book Aja used to draw), and angrily asks why everyone keeps getting the two of them confused. Archie Comics: Archie is relatively …

I guess its just cheaper not to make props and armored outfits when you can CGI everything.
Yep, and also they're probably afraid that physical costumes and costumes styled more like the comic ones would look silly on the big screen. Oh...ponytail strange was wearing a costume inspired by one comic strange wore for a while in the comics
I want to like America Chavez, but she didn't do much besides be a MacGuffin to chase.
Yes, she was underused. Also teaching her magic is strange, since she's a flying superstrong super fast brick who can open up portals. Seriously she's up there with Hyperion and Wonder Man in that category
