Quebec researchers say they have found an effective drug to fight COVID-19

A team of researchers from the Montreal Heart Institute believes they have found an effective weapon against COVID-19: colchicine, an oral tablet already known and used for other diseases.

The ColCorona study involved 4,159 patients whose diagnosis of COVID-19 had been proven by a nasopharyngeal test (PCR).

Analysis of the study found that colchicine resulted in reductions in hospitalizations by 25 per cent, the need for mechanical ventilation by 50 per cent, and deaths by 44 per cent.

"This is the first hope for patients who have COVID, who are worried and who hope that they will not have complications, there were no tablets that could be taken by mouth and reduce the risks," said Tardif.

Doctor Tardif believes that prescribing the drug could help reduce congestion in hospitals quickly and reduce health-care costs here as elsewhere.

Well, the video itself is great. It's good see that common sense returned back to the administration.

The reactions to the video however are bad.

This, for example, is one of the less harsh comments: "How do we mark this and future videos as offensive?? "

"Where is your fing mask Jen? You are on Fed property................. "

"tickets should be issued for breaking a federal law by not wearing the masks. joe,your people are not following your executive order you just signed. "

"Pathetic excuses for reporters. They forgot to as what brand of diapers Biden wears."

"She looks like a female clone of Zuckerberg."

On the other end are downright lies getting many likes like this one:
"Joe's accomplishments in his first 3 days in office -Severely raised the price of insulin -Deployed more troops to Iraq -Deployed more troops to Syria -Eliminated 70k jobs -Cancelled permits for Keystone pipeline -Contradicted his fracking promise -Made the US no longer energy independent and back on foreign oil -Eliminated women’s sports -Eliminated the new tradition of donating the POTUS salary and instead will be enriching his family -Mandate to wear a mask at any federal facility which he already violated several times -Signed an expansion package to encourage government bloating -Gave access back to China to our power grids -Admitted he didn’t have a covid plan -Stopped the Wall construction -Rejoined the Paris Accord where the US will be penalized for the industrial revolution and China will reap rewards -Made the National Guard sleep in a freezing parking garage -Allowed Red China to violate the Tiawanese airspace with military aircraft and naval vessels raising tensions in the Far East. -Restarted payments of American tax payer dollars to the WHO -Isis is back -Allowed Red China to violate the Tiawanese airspace with military aircraft and naval vessels raising tensions in the Far East."

CBC News COVID updates on youtube get brigaded with downvotes constantly, not the other random bits about COVID, just the updates. I doubt many of the downvotes are genuine from real individuals.

This story was on Fark today. I knew I had heard of that drug but couldn't remember where. Decades ago, maybe the '80s I had read about this.

Colchichine is also used to cause marijuana to poliploid, i.e., instead of division of one cell into two one cell divides into four - it was recommended in a book I read 50 years ago to make average home grown weed really good home grown weed.

Bad news for seniors: the German government expects the Astra Zeneca vaccine to have only an effectiveness of around 8% for people age 65 and higher. Astra Zeneca's vaccine uses a vector virus instead of mRNA, which makes it require less cooling. So this vaccine is the vaccine of choice for countries/regions where maintaining the cooling chain of the other vaccines is hard.
