It most certainly is a cover. Mad World was written by Roland Orzabal and first performed by Tears For Fears. Gary Jules' version is the textbook definition of a cover.

So this is technically not a cover, but a parody of Dancing On My Own. However, I had never heard Dancing On My Own when I first heard this, so I didn't even know it was a parody. Anyway, I love both.

This one is very old; the first known recording was by a then-young Louis Armstrong in 1928 but it's likely older than that. And I never heard anyone perform it with as much feeling as this.
