But you end on "the bible actually is pretty clearly against money hording and for charity," which is not true for the cherry picker. See: Prosperity theology.
Prosperity theology is not a very big movement precisely because it really has no biblical support. I do think the bible is a mess and not a good source of truth, as I said clearly in my post, but that doesn't mean all ways to cherry pick it are equally supported. You can cherry pick if Jesus would like gay people or not or if he'd approve of abortions or not because he doesn't actually address those topics. The bible does state some things more directly than others. But TO BE CLEAR, I do wish it was politically feasible in the USA to just throw it out of politics all together.

Texas, in 1776?

He bummed around in the U.K. for a few years, instructing the English that it was their moral duty to bring enlightenment and Christianity to the suffering untutored poor brown masses throughout the world.

And the unshodden masses in Ireland, of course. But it's always Ireland.

A 2006 poll by Time reported that 17 percent of Christians in America said they identified with the movement.
That may not make it a huge movement, but "not very big"? Based on numbers alone, that would put them at ~35 million.
At this point we are splitting hairs, but I consider 17% to be a small(ish) minority. I agree this is a good example of how the super religious can rationalize anything in the bible since it is funny how anyone believes this given it really has no biblical support. ...but it's appealing to con artists and desperate people for sure!

Not according to some Christians.
Well, of course GOP nut cases nitpick the bible to find only the evidence in it they want to find in there.

The overall image though is different: Jesus had this tendency to criticize the mighty, and he deeply cared for all the poor and outcasts of society . He didn't care about the status of people, but about the people. Woke enough for me. Oh, and he was also pretty much a socialist as well.

So of course real Jesus is a fucking nightmare to GOP idiots, which they have to spin around.

The problem is we don't deal with the "real Jesus" on a day to day basis. Rather it's the GOP spin doctors and various conservatively-oriented faithful that take up the oxygen.

Nobody ever even mentions Jesus' baby sister any more.

yeah, I think that site originally was founded to protest evolution. Real scientific evidence contradicts their old book... so they concluded the real world is wrong.
One of the suggested articles was titled something like, "Evolution changes its story, again!"

Like yeah.... Thats how science works. We goneith the EVIDENCE we have, until more evidence is found. Sometimes that evidence changes our understanding, because understanding is not something you learn once and now its locked in stone for eternity.

Working at a museum in Arkansas that had natural history exhibits, I became very familiar with these asshats. Even some faculty quoted them to object to some of our materials.

Technically his half-sister, right?
I don't know who we are talking about, but if she is able to babysit, that suggests older, and if Mary was a virgin, then that suggests the sister is Joseph's kid, and since Joseph would not be blood related to Jesus, I think maybe step-sister?

Yeah, I lean toward the "not a real person" theory myself. At best, an amalgamation of several real figures. But I don't have a dog in that fight, so... whatev. :D
^^ this. Still an admirable set of moral rules (to a point). It's too bad so many of his followers ignore their own rules.
