My dad has "mophobia" instead. He passionately hates that anyone might potentially have an excuse not to give him their total undivided attention, which he feels he's entitled to just by being nearby.

He will complain at length about people absorbed by their devices... strangers on the bus he never rides, pedestrians on sidewalks he never walks, Cafe patrons at places he never goes to, they're all being unforgivably rude to him by blocking his desire to talk at them. Which makes no sense to me, he's from New York, ain't nobody there got time to listen to some random stranger's yakity yak, since even before mobile phones.

One of their other choices surprised me since it has been around a long time, "gender gap". A Time article in 1982 said,

To most Americans, the letters GG are recognizable only as the links on stylish men's loafers or the imprint on pricey women's handbags. But to politicians, the initials stand for the most fashionable topic among pollsters today: the "gender gap" between men and women voters.

I checked my iPhone Screen Time report... I averaged 5 mins of screen time per day last week.

Pretty sure I don't suffer from nomophobia. :D

I specifically always have earbuds in when I go outside because of men like Jopsy's dad.

anytime anyone says "nom", they usually mean food but I think of drink as the Japanese for "to drink" is "nomu"
"nomihodai" = all you can drink
"nomimono" = a drink (literally "drink thing")
If someone says "om nom nom nom" I have to do a double take with my brain to stop myself thinking of them drinking and reprocess it as them eating.

So, as soon as I saw this, I thought it was either people scared of drinking or eating!

On topic of the actually meaning; where I work, mobile phones are classed as a security risk so have to be handed to security on entry to the building, so I have never ended up addicted to my phone.
I have moments of panic when I arrive at work. When I get out of my car, I notice the lack of a mobile phone in my pocket and I panic. I then reassure myself it's left in my car.
I then walk into work and see all the warning signs against mobile phones and panic again that I didn't leave it in the car.

I am not sure why I keep up with new mobile technology since I so rarely use it. I am on PAYG and top up by £5 every 4-6 months

Sounds to me like Jopsy's dad is suffering from a syndrome known as Chronically Annoyed Daddism. It's also known in the literature as, "It's always some damn thing!"

My dad had it too, but back then the topic was usually These Kids and That Damn So-called Music.

When I first saw the word, I thought it might have referred to the irrational fear by “straight” males that their actions might be perceived as gay, hence their saying “no homo”.

According to the app "Quality Time", I use my phone an average of about 6 hours a day.

I initially though it might be the fear of names, but that's apparently nomatophobia.

A useful reminder that I need to top up the phone.

Only thing I like having my phone on me for is checking the time or to take quick glances at the interwebs while cooking, I don't even have games on my phone.

But I assume phones have kinda become the thing to do with your hands like reading the paper or smoking used to be.

NO NEED TO FEEL AKWARD JUST STANDING THERE WHEN YOU HAVE PHONE!!!!

No no... It's "a fear of being in a place with no (ho)Mo's around" !!! "OMG, I'm the only 'Mo' here, this suuuuucks!!"

(Fwiw, I also initially thought nomophobia had something to do with nomming on food.)
