Lindsey Graham is one of America's worst toadies and a wryneck.

That's what we called people in Germany who, ~after~ the fall of the GDR, switched overnight from being loyal toadies under the Stasi regime ("Mitläufer") to "I've always been a strong supporter of Democracy". The "Wendehals" - or wryneck in English - is of course a bird known for having an extremely flexible neck that allows it to turn its head by almost 180 degrees. They're also known as "snake-birds" for that reason.

Looks like the MAGA movement is imploding, feeling betrayed by both the Republicans and, to a lesser extent, by Trump himself.

While Trump and his court obviously will still be able to make a lot of mischief from Mar-a-Largo, I think that now the Republicans and the Party of Donald J Trump (the Patriots, as they call themselves) are at each other's throats, and the MAGA crowd are feeling let down and betrayed after their failed coup attempt (more like a pitch invasion by a soccer crowd who don't like the ref's decision, if you ask me), the idea of Trump either making a comeback or, failing that, acting as Republican kingmaker in 2024 is now looking -- at least to me -- somewhat remote.

It's not impossible, of course, but for the moment the big fight seems not between the Democrats and the Republicans but between the Trumpists and the non-Trumpists on the Republican side.
