Credit where it's due -- the conduct of state and federal judges at all levels during this massive abuse of the judicial process and attempted coup has been exemplary. They've treated this seditious nonsense with the contempt it deserves, no matter who appointed them.
now, if only the gop assholes in the House and Senate would stop this nonsense.

Trump hasn't been appointing judges because they agree with him, though.

He's been appointing judges recommended to him by the Federalist Society, who are interested in promoting a particular conservative theory of legal interpretation, which many wealthy Americans find attractive because it seems to regard the right to acquire and hold as much wealth as possible, with as little interference as possible from the federal government, as the keystone of all other American freedoms.
This is one of those situations where Trump thought he was in control the whole time but he really wasn't, and he must be realizing it now, and if I could only feed on that impotent rage.

Trump's whole approach to government has been to appoint friends in critical positions and then hold the fact that he can fire them at any moment over their heads if they start getting funny ideas like actually devoting their service to the nation they're serving rather than realizing they're there to serve him. But of course federal judges don't work like that., their positions are for life or until they decide to retire; the President appoints them but can't remove them. Boy that lack of leverage must suck.

I wish, but I don't think that's possible anymore. The boilerplate to "stop the Democrats at any cost" led them to sit by or even help as the Republican voter base was radicalized into a personality cult, and that's just what it is now, and if they want to keep their jobs they have to please the base by pledging allegiance to Trump, and if - like the Republican governor and state-secretary of Georgia - that loyalty puts them in a position where the only possible way to please the base would be by blatantly and publicly breaking the law and they can't bring themselves to cross that line, they're f'd and that's all there is to it. I don't know if there's enough of a "moderate" Republican base left nationwide to seize the party at large back from the extremists.

McConnell has been using Trump the whole time. We are about to the point where he can stop pretending. Passing the defense bill by a veto-proof margin is the first sign Trump is losing his loyalty.
I think it's completely gone right now. McConnell was "rah rah Trump" just long enough to get re-elected. He would've stayed loyal if Trump had won, but Trump didn't, so there's no point in even pretending now, lol. He kept his job and Trump didn't.

And the GOP Senate is whipped a lot closer than the GOP House. You didn't see any Republican Senators signing onto to the failed Texas lawsuit.

It's often been observed that Trump sees almost everything in transactional terms; you give something to get something. By his logic, giving someone a lifetime job as a judge is something for which he is due something in return. From his perspective, those "Trump-appointed judges" owed him rulings on his behalf regardless of how they needed to bend or torture the law and Constitution. He is utterly baffled when others don't see these transactions in his terms (As when he famously stood by the grave of Gen Kelly's son at Arlington and said, "I don't get it. What was in it for them?")

When you are as pathological a narcissist as DJT, you want to believe everyone else is either the same way, or they are "losers". The concepts of honesty and integrity are so foreign to him he is at a loss to cope and can only lash out in rage.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that all members of SCOTUS acted with "honesty and integrity" because I think the jury is still out with the latest additions. Instead, I think their ruling is a sign of just how egregiously insane the case was, that not a single one of them was willing to stick their neck out for Trump.

Even so, what the simpleton Trump has completely missed is that these new jurists were brought to the dance by McConnell and the Federalist Society, not him. It's because of the opportunity to make these judicial placements that McConnell tolerates Trump. If anyone can expect a return on their investment it will be the GOP Leadership, and I fully expect that Trump's appointees will deliver at that time.

More Trump-stamping of the government before he's ousted.

I really don't understand what Trump hopes to accomplish by doing this. Won't Biden just simply replace them all when he takes over next month? I mean, it shouldn't be more than a minor inconvenience for the Biden administration, right?

I think it is more.... in a final coup attempt, the more people who will back him up, the better?

That is exactly right. No mistake about it, this SC is going to tilt very far to the right, meaning less consumer and worker rights. Roe v Wade is and was the ultimate case that they were put there to adjudicate. We are all happy that they didn't allow a coup? Well, thank god, but beyond that we shall see just how they rule. This is, most definitely NOT a Supreme Court that will get rid of Citizens United, bring back the gutted VRA or anything else of that sort. I think it far more likely that our civil rights will be curtailed in favor of religious beliefs.

My mom, who is pro-life [and across the board too, not just anti-choice] is convinced that they will never overturn Roe vs Wade. Because without it, they lose a lot of single issue voters who only support the GOP because they think they will get rid of abortions.
