“What’s the difference between this and Watergate?”
By this point in Watergate hadn't Nixon had already resigned, and he hadn't done anything near as treasonous...

Oh, Donald, are you imagining yourself as the *Democrats* in Watergate? You silly twisted by, you're not the hero of this story.

Is that real? I've always thought they would go with that angle; that he was only being harassed because of his politics. They will literally do and say anything to exonerate that walking, filthy criminal. When he wins the 2024 election, and they are busy seeing to it that he will as is the Crooked Court, he will then be untouchable, AGAIN, as president. I doubt we will ever see that man get his comeuppance before he passes. It doesn't even matter who fills his shoes after that. The GOP sold its soul long ago. They will continue to turn this country into a dystopian nightmare.

I think the whiny orange Russian asset will actually announce his candidacy soon, if only as a ploy to keep the investigators off his back. It worked last time, so he'll try again.
He has always planned on running again. They are just holding off on the declaration until after the November mid-terms.

Yeah, but he might announce it now, before the midterms.

Apparently Garland has already said that candidacy or no, the investigation will continue. And seriously, I expect that he's already disqualified because he violated the law on presidential documents, which specifically says, that violating prevents them from holding office.

That's a very reasonable, rational and reality-based perspective that would convince a mentally sound and stable person, someone who values any of those things, to not run for office.

That's unlikely to hold up though. Congress can't just make random laws disqualifying somebody from running for president.

There have been a number of cases about term limits applied by states that were ruled on by a sane Supreme Court. What they have consistently held is that neither the states nor Congress can add any limitations to offices that are not in the Constitution. The only options to forbid him from running are impeachment or conviction for insurrection/treason.

Also bribery and "high crimes and misdemeanors".
