I hate how terrible ChatGPT is at understanding time. You get a limit of free generations, which is fine, I can work with that. But so many times I come back after 24 hours and it still says I have to wait.

Whats more annoying, it has no way to access the information that tells how long the delay it. It just sort of.... Guesses... If you ask. Or repeats the previous time it gave when the delay started.

DuckDuckGo, the privacy-focused search engine and web browser, recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to hide images made with AI from their search results.

You can try it yourself right now by running a search on the DuckDuckGo search engine and going to the images tab. You’ll now see a new drop-down menu option titled “AI Images” that can be toggled to hide or show AI images.

“Our goal is to help you find what you’re looking for. You should decide for yourself how much AI you want in your life – or if you want any at all,” the company said in an announcement posted on the social media site X (formerly Twitter).

In quiet moments, I've been entertaining myself by using chatgpt to flesh out characters and story bits. I've got three possibly overlapping 'world building' projects going. While I'm still driving the narrative, I'm using chatgpt like spackle to fill in the difficult transitional bits. Anyway, no finished stories to post yet (chatgpt kinda sucks balls when it comes to laying out a comic book page... I'll probably have to go panel by panel and stitch them together.)

Anyway, tl;dr: one of the stories I'm working on is kind of a inverted 'Rise of the Guardians' story, involving Jack Frost's opposite sibling, Summer. The incarnation of soporiphic humidity, heat induced delerium, poor choices, the impulsive urge to do something or nothing. A live-in-the-moment hedonist with a Peter Pan-like aversion to responsiblity, growing up, settling down or being practical. Indulgence without regret. (A characer that is about as opposite me as one can get).

Like Jack Frost, Summer is rarely visible to mortals and soon forgotten, but when he's near, bonfires rage, kegs get tapped, mischief is made and time is lost. But Gray, a very even keeled unremarkable -plain- mortal, starts noticing Summer more and more. Not just remembering him but also seems unaffected by Summer's pervasive and stupifying influence. Summer notices. They become friends... And as the season changes, Summer tries to explain to his sister Autumn that Gray's 'okay' and doesn't need to be 'dealt with' like past mortals that became too aware of the seasonal incarnations.

I particularly like how it portrayed the postures of the 3. Gray is defensive, Autumn is closed off, Summer is turned more towards Gray showing favor in that direction but with an open offering/receptive hand towards his sister. I didn't specify any of that, the generative AI just picked it up from context and portrayed it that way.

I hate how useful it is for this, and I hate that I keep wanting to use it for this. Like, I've built an entire general framework out for a story, and it needs some fleshing out and human work, but I hate how good it is at it because I kind of hate the whole back end of what AI is doing on ethical levels.

I'm obviously less conflicted, especially with the image generation part.

But mostly I'm using it more like a reader for feedback from a perspective not my own, not as an editor. "What do you think this character's motives are in this part? How would you have expected them to behave instead? Which story questions did this passage resolve, and which new questions did you take away from it, expecting them to be answered later?" And so on. If the answers I get aren't what I want, I rewrite and try again, keeping the words themselves as "mine".

Backlash over offensive Grok outputs continues, just a couple weeks after the social platform X scrambled to stop its AI tool from dubbing itself "MechaHitler" during an antisemitic meltdown.

Now, The Verge has found that the newest video feature of Elon Musk's AI model will generate nude images of Taylor Swift without being prompted.

Shortly after the "Grok Imagine" was released Tuesday, The Verge's Jess Weatherbed was shocked to discover the video generator spat out topless images of Swift "the very first time" she used it.

What should one expect with the "spicy" setting, getting images of Taylor chowing down on kimchi?

So one more, I ran out of images on ChatGPT so I decided to try some more desert suited animals for the steed and got this from Hidream.

I really like this, and it's cheap, I think I'll try it for a while.

But first, I had to wait for the next day to get some actual desert predators for these bold mice.

I think Hidream did a better rendering job with the shadows and all, but this is recognizably an attempt at the same picture with a bit of an edge.

Tried a bunch of attempts to get a thoughtful giant robot looking over the ruins of Neo Tokyo. They all gave me Transformers with maybe a hint of Eva standing menacingly with maybe Tetsuo and Kenada in the foreground, even when I told them I wanted a wood block print in the style of Hokusai, until Google Imagen came through with this:

Google Translate couldn't make head nor tails of the chop, it didn't even recognize it as words.
