We have such a Starbucks in a nearby town. When it first opened last year, we tried it (not the drivethrough line! Inside!) and found they'd followed the MacDonald's model of customer seating: make the environment just nice enough to consume your purchase, but not so nice as to invite remaining after consumption. It was loud, bright, cold, and the seats were barely comfortable. If the Connecticut Starbucks is the same, no wonder people prefer their car to being inside. Our coffee drinks were also a bit watery, which for me continues to underline a recurring question of mine: why would anyone choose Starbucks?
I'm a coffee addict so I've tried them all when travelling. I just like black coffee with no adulteration. Of the three major franchises in the UK I'd rate Caffé Nero as number one, Costa as number two and Starbucks as number three. Starbucks is on a par with McDonalds.I've never used Starbucks, and have no idea what their coffee tastes like. I've always been put off by the fact their main selling point seems to be the variety of flavourings they offer with your coffee, which suggests to me they're trying to hide the fact the coffee isn't particularly good (and I don't like sweet drinks anyway, apart from hot chocolate).
Fortunately, whenever I need a franchise coffee shop there always seems to be a Caffè Nero nearby, which offers decent Italian coffee, so I will probably never find out what I'm missing.
I'm not sure I agree... I think the Starbucks blond roast is pretty good for drinking it black or just with a splash of cream. I'm not saying their coffee is amazing or anything, just that it's good enough when you are out and have limited options.Starbucks is on a par with McDonalds.
It's about the only way I can reliably find a blond roast on store shelves too. There's three bags in the room where with me. One empty.Starbucks blond roast
Every Starbucks in my town have gone the same way. Gone are the relaxing, comfortable seating they used to have. Replacing them are these wooden things that don't even have backs. And they are loud, bright, and cold. I miss the old mom-and-pop coffee houses we used to have.We have such a Starbucks in a nearby town. We used to have a couple in Georgia, but not as many as starbucks. But then we also moved to Florida, so don't know.Caribou Coffee has the nice comfortable seats and no one bothers you for lingering. But then, the people lingering do buy things or leave tips (well, I do at any rate). Not sure if it's a regional chain or national, though.

Barnes & Nobles has coffeeshops, comfortable seating and a "no hassle" policy as well - in MN at least, and it's a national chain.![]()

Big in the Midwest. Nothing of them here on the East coast.
