Lincoln has been on deployment for nine months. While the standard has always been six months, longer deployments are not unheard of. What IS unheard of, though, is the number of consecutive days at sea without a port call the crew of the Lincoln have endured: Around 260 days. And they've been doing this without fresh food and basic hygiene supplies. Even cleaning supplies are in short supply, leading to mold buildup in the showers, clogged and broken toilets, and worse.

The Lincoln, as with every other aircraft carrier in current service, has a lot of creature comforts that makes a deployment less arduous. But none of that equipment was designed to handle heavy continuous use for such a long period of time without repairs. Things like washing machines have broken down leading to further degradation of quality of life aboard the carrier.

Then there are the working hours. Most sailors work 12-hour shifts seven days a week. But many - particularly those responsible for operating and maintaining the ship's propulsion systems, power plants, and other essential utilities, work 6-on, 6-off, meaning they get very little continuous sleep.

All of this can be hard to deal with when you're on a standard deployment with a known end date, marked with occasional port visits. But take that deployment, take away all port visits, and extend it indefinitely, and run out of everything that makes deployed life bearable, and you've got the perfect recipe for a morale meltdown.

Fuck this entire Trump administration! Pete Hegseth needs to be fired.

Hegseth Covered Up the Real Reason the USS Lincoln Wasn’t Resupplied

According to a report from MS NOW, the USS Abraham Lincoln wasn’t resupplied because Iranian strikes destroyed a key Navy resupply base in the Middle East.

The USS Abraham Lincoln wasn’t able to be resupplied because the U.S. Navy’s main resupply base in the Gulf of Oman was destroyed by Iranian strikes—a fact that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth chose not to make public, David Rhode, MS NOW’s senior national security reporter, said on Tuesday.

From late February until June, Iran launched extensive missile and drone strikes on Naval Support Activity Bahrain, causing devastating damage that was not acknowledged by the Pentagon.

The U.S. Navy was forced to evacuate most personnel, and move supply operations to a U.K. naval base on Diego Garcia, a tiny island in the Indian Ocean 2,200 miles from where two aircraft carrier groups have been operating in the Gulf of Oman.

There is an extraordinarily self-destructive voice in the US press, desperate to appeal to Trump, which regularly tries to put a very positive gloss on what is happening. As the next story will show, this reached a rather bizarre state in the last few days.

The reality is this. The USA cannot afford to antagonize China, as it is too weak militarily and too economically dependent on China. Moreover, Trump remains desperate to stay in President Xi’s good books. Remember, this is the man who Trump praised lavishly in June for being “very smart” of being of “great stature” and of being “a strong man”.

If the USA will not sanction China, and that looks extremely likely after this week, then it really cannot sanction Iran. This is what a weakened America looks like.

It is astonishing to hear Trump backers saying Trump is winning because the price of oil is not up that much. Actually it is, and in some cases it is getting worse. Crude oil prices are up around 50% from the start of the war and diesel prices are up by far more. Paul Krugman recently wrote a great piece about that.

And these rises have so far been restrained by the US running down its stocks—which are reaching lows they have rarely reached before. They have not been as low as they are now since 1982.

The US is, sadly, living in a fantasy world much of the time—because people and organizations who have backed Trump cannot admit the truth of what they have done. However this wilful embrace of lies is one of the reasons the USA is steadily weakening. Any recovery will have to start with an acknowledgement of the truth.

And China?
China counts the money that comes in from the US, EU and others and keeps producing more war stuff in their own pace without even launching one missile.

This is what many people in America who criticize the Obama administration's agreement fail to understand: we had China and Russia on board. Any agreement with Iran that does not have the support of their largest trading partners is worthless. We can cut off trade through the Persian Gulf, but the Caspian Sea is beyond American reach. Effective sanctions on Iran require either secondary sanctions on Russia and China or their cooperation. We have always had a myth that the US can act unilaterally to impose our will, but the reality has always been we need allies and we need to engage with countries we can't directly influence like China.
