Bethesda's next game Starfield is coming out September 6. If you are in the dark about this, Bethesda made Skyrim and Fallout. It is their first new platform in over 20 years. The game is huge, involving a 1000 stars and planets. They released a 45 minute video about it not too long ago.


Bethesda has a reputation of releasing games that are quite buggy. They are offering some of sort of expensive early release package where players can play on September 1 so there should be reports on how good or bad it is in that respect from that date.

I have no hesitation in buying it EXCEPT, my gpu does not meet minimum specs, a mobile RTX 3050. The game is available on steam though, so I have a 48 hour / 2 hour play window to return it. All I need is moderate display resolution at 1080p and 30 fps. So that's my plan.

Even though there are 1,000 planets only about 100 are habitable. The video still left some questions. Gamescom is soon and there will be some kind of showing there but no playable demo but Bethesda Studio games usually don't.

Hopefully with one less platform to develop for and the one-year delay it won't be as buggy as past Bethesda Game Studio games were. Supposedly a lot people outside of Bethesda but within Microsoft have been testing it. I know that it runs 4K and 30 fps on Xbox but of course on PC you can run it higher than 30fps. It should run easily at 1080p.

There are no land vehicles in the game but I suspect that the mod community will fix that or at least try to.

While Starfield is very appealing, I think I'll stick with Empyrion: Galactic Survival. Mainly because in Empyrion I can mostly avoid combat and just stick with exploring, farming, trading and colonizing*.


*building bases in different solar systems on any planet of my choosing.

Dang, you guys. I've been a Bethesda fangirl since day one. I haven't pre-purchased (made that mistake too often already) but I def plan on buying it. Now I realize I haven't looked at system requirements - not something I've worried about for a couple of years, now!

Starfield will be unplayable for a lot of PC gamers

Worst case, I might have to make a little space on my main data drive but I might be able to cheese it by lowering my graphics?

He's doing it for Bethesda. They wanted him to do a filming model of the ship featured in the Starfield Showcase.

That was only part one. They haven't shown it being wired for lights or what Bethesda is going to do with it.

• Starfield will feature a player housing system.
• Players can find themselves in jail. The game will feature laws and government to enforce said laws. Players can also smuggle contraband via special modules.
• All playable factions can be completed.

I'm not sure how good a "deep RPG" it is if you can complete all factions. You can do this in recent Bethesda games like Skyrim, but in Morrowind there were conflicts between factions that prevented a player from completing all questlines. You had to make choices that had consequences, and it rewarded replaying the game with different playstyles.

Yes, that seems like a bad choice if true. I watched a two hour playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 today. While that isn't the sort of game really to my liking, choices had consequences.

I don't usually buy or play games when they are new but I may have to go ahead and pick this one up and give it a go. It sounds kind of neat and I played a lot of Skyrim at one point.
