This reminds me of the exchange between Dr Faustus and the devil Mephistopheles that takes place immediately after Faustus has sold his soul:
Faust. First will I question with thee about hell.
Tell me where is the place that men call hell?
Meph. Under the Heaven.
Faust. Ay, but whereabout?
Meph. Within the bowels of these elements,
Where we are tortur’d and remain for ever;
Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscrib’d
In one self place; for where we are is hell,
And where hell is there must we ever be:
And, to conclude, when all the world dissolves,
And every creature shall be purified,
All places shall be hell that is not Heaven.
Faust. Come, I think hell’s a fable.
Meph. Ay, think so still, till experience change thy mind.

ETA: The reason I quote it at such length is that I've always thought it tells you something about Faustus that, having sold his soul to the devil not five minutes ago, and asked him where hell is, and Mephistopheles tells him, he just says, "Get away. There's no such place. You're having me on."

Probably today he'd say that he's seen something on YouTube proving that hell's fake news, and Mephistopheles is a crisis actor.

For those in the US, a bit of a reprieve, especially on the money side if you have to pay. You'll need to keep on the lookout at your state and local tax authorities for their deadlines though.

So the hand sanitizer trick worked? Without events spirits sales were expected to tank anyways, creating free hand sanitizers might seem philantropic to you, but in my eyes they capitalize on the pandemic by using it as a marketing ploy (if their behaviour changed what drink you will order once it's over the marketing worked).
I don't see the trick. We're in dire need of sanitizer, they are making sanitizer and not profitting from it, but providing it free. If it also publicizes their brand, I have no problem with that. There are some brands I will deliberately use in future because of their behaviour during this experience, and some I will never use again.

Man arrested on Isle of Man 'for failing to self-isolate
'
A man has been arrested for allegedly failing to self-isolate after arriving on the Isle of Man amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The island has passed emergency legislation requiring new arrivals to quarantine themselves for 14 days.

People who break the law could face a fine of up to £10,000 or three months in prison, the chief minister has said.

The 26-year-old man is thought to be the first person held in the British Isles for breaching quarantine rules.

Wages cover for businesses hit by virus outlined

The government is to pay 80% of wages for employees not working, up to £2,500 a month, Chancellor Rishi Sunak says.

The "unprecedented" measures are part of government plans to protect people's jobs, he says.

Many firms have been warning of collapse, wiping out thousands of jobs, as life in the UK is largely put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Well, at least the pandemic made me remember Corona is one of the better local beers that isn’t a microbrewery specialty. I haven’t had it since I lived in Austin years ago.

Honestly, I have no idea what to make of this.

Their population is almost 1.4 billion and they’ve had the virus for a few months. Yes they reacted drastically so it was bound to slow it down, but the number of deaths they have declared so far seems low, no? I haven’t really followed the details/numbers coming out of China but what they do declare just seem weird to me.

A good advice to Californians: if you don't have any toilet paper, please don't shred old t-shirts to pieces and use this as replacement.

The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) provide the British government with their recommendations as scientists about how the government should respond to the pandemic.

A copy of the minutes for their meeting last Monday, which was about the advice on which today's announcements were made, has come into the hands of The Times (presumably because someone wanted it published) and it makes very interesting and sobering reading.
