If you haven't, then disregard the rest of this post because it won't make any sense to you; and also you should watch Snowpiercer because it's a decent movie!
If you have, then next question: are you familiar with the theory that says Snowpiercer is low-key a sequel to 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory?
If not, then watch this video and prepare to be astounded:
If you don't feel like sparing the 15 minutes, basically the theory goes that Wilford, the inventor and ostensible "ruler" of the train Snowpiercer, is literally (although unofficially) a late-middle-aged Charlie Bucket from the Willy Wonka movie and that the train and its wonders were his final creations as the inheritor of Willy Wonka's industrial empire before the world suffered an apocalyptic climate crisis. This is never stated outright in the movie but allegedly there are clues in Snowpiercer's visuals and dialogue. For instance,
At the end it is revealed that the small children the train crew have been periodically "collecting" from the steerage passengers are used to perform maintenance tasks in the train's engine, necessary because only children are physically small enough to fit into the maintenance spaces. In a line of dialogue Wilford remarks that children weren't always needed but that the "equipment" that originally performed those tasks "went extinct recently". Extinct being a very odd word to use for machinery, heavily implying that he's talking about something that had been living. The theory says that the implication is that the maintenance tasks were originally performed by Oompa Loompas, and when the last of them died, Wilford had to resort to abducting children to keep the engine running.
But that's just one of the clues; there are several others. Some of the alleged connections are admittedly...weaker than others; but I think on the whole the video makes at least a plausible argument.
But why am I bringing this up? Snowpiercer came out in 2014 and the "Wonka sequel theory" video came out two years ago, so it's not like this is breaking news.
Well! Did you know that a Snowpiercer TV series is coming out this summer? I didn't! Seems it was announced last month, but I completely missed it, only learning about it minutes ago. But why is that important?
Except the author was French (classic graphic novel from the 80's) and the one behind the movie is from South-Korea I think. Bong joon something, I forget. Still possible, I guess.
That's true about the graphic novel, but the plot of the movie only very vaguely resembles the plot of the book, and all of the important "suspicious" details were added by the writer/director for the movie. The spoilered part I talked about for instance doesn't appear in the graphic novels at all, and the guy running the train isn't its inventor, he's just an engineer - and he has a completely different name in the book.
I personally can't say, but from what I've heard about Bong Joon-ho I wouldn't put it past him to have deliberately made allusions to Willy Wonka in his movie...
So the Loki and WandaVision Marvel series have been filming locally where I live (like one town over). They are due to come out late this year due to post-production/special effects work.
