The people.

I love my SL -self and the ability to meet and talk to other people that I don't get to in RL. The incredible music available, the artistic expression everywhere, it's all fantastic in my eyes. I took a break for a few years, and I'm enjoying SL even more now that I'm back.

Roleplaying with people who aren't too serious. Looking after tenants (doesn't take much work really and they're very patient with my attempts at windlight changes just to keep my brain active). Not much else. Since I gave up trying to find some fun in places that didn't suit me (or me them probably) I've lost a lot of former 'friends'. Without the rp I'd probably just give up and accumulate lindens.

It didn't take long for Prokofy to pop up in the SL forums thread and claim that we didn't acknowledge the death of Siggy on SLU. I didn't bite, I just explained that we most certainly did care, that the thread was only visible if you were signed in. What a stupid thing to claim.

I'm so happy I've never interacted with prok. every time they're brought up It's like people talking about a long ago legend about some doof from the ancient scrolls.

Not just there, but here as well.
I think many don’t realize that both the old and new have an entire subforum full of threads that are only visible to members who are logged in Perhaps that’s why they see us as vipers, or don’t understand our closeness. They don’t see our grief, our pain, our health or financial struggles, nor how we support one another in those times.

Still, claiming we didn’t acknowledge the loss of a long time member with very deep personal relationships with other members is not only rude, it’s stupid. Prok usually has slightly better reading comprehension than that. Siggy was mentioned twice in the thread about SLU closing, and that was public.

Edit to add - rest assured anyone who hasn’t registered here, creating a thread in memory of those we lost from SLU was one of the first orders of business here. Of all the content that we will miss, knowing those people won’t be coming here with us, that we won’t be able to glance back at their posts or private messages is the most difficult.

Well it's kinda hard to keep the "SLU are mean poo heads" narrative if you acknowledge things like that.

Fun story: I unknowingly purchased a mainland parcel in Arlberg across the river from Prokofy's personal home and a bunch of rentals. Also next to this weird man who thought Obama was going to bring on the apocalypse, presumably a friend of Proks.

My presence there, with my username and collection of knick nacks caused a cold war to happen across the highway. I did not realize who was there until the screaming about the american constitutions being the greatest document ever written from the weird man in my inbox started. Signs were rezzed at me, and things encroached onto my land to track my movements. I stayed there six months, only acting defensively in this cold war and removing encroached objects and matching signs if theirs were particularly nasty.

I guess they couldn't stand me, so both parcels round me went up for sale. I won. Arlberg is now unpleasantness free.

I've encountered (meaning "been in the same room with") Prok exactly once as far as I know of. It was historical thing for SLB8 if I remember right.

Then again I wonder. Around 2010 I used Ross as a free home for a bunch of alts; and one of them had Prok on ignore. What (if anything) happened? Fuck if I can remember...

I have no clue why I come back once or twice a year to be honest. But every now and then I can't help myself. And hang around again for a few weeks/months.
Mostly wondering why I bought/leased a parcel again.
I think it are the memories of the good old days more than anything else.

What’s so interesting about these responses is that they share a common thread. They really are more about people’s experiences than the product itself. I remember once reading someone comment that LL really had no idea why it’s own product was so successful, and that it was more or less accidental and not necessarily something they did. It’s also why they have/will struggle to replicate that. I’m paraphrasing, but you get the idea.

I like to decorate house,, I have quite a few and change them frequently. I can do the walls in paint or wall paper, I can do various decorating looks.
I was doing Gacha for a while but now wait and pick up the stuff cheap on Marketplace.
I go to Dance clubs or chat with friends.

Cripes, you guys are so terse! I answered this thread in the SL forum and I used about a page and a half! What it all boiled down to is that the people bring me/brought me back. The ones I know (and in some cases even love) and the ones I keep meeting.

And by the way, that thread about SLU closing wasn't ALL bad, there were plenty of positive comments. The bulk of the ones saying, "OH I HOPE THEY ALL PERISH IN A FIRE!" were from people who'd gotten their asses handed to them here. I didn't know them all but the ones I do know got what they deserved.
