CNN has found out that many Americans, who visited Europe or Asia once, are hungry for community places. And is asking the question why America doesn't have more European-style squares?

Good lord, what an insane idea.

1) No ROI.

2) People who didn't pay for it might use it. You know who *wink, wink* amirite?

3) Why would we pay to build a space for the human resources to not work? That makes no sense.

4) Learning something from Europe would imply the USA isn't already better than them in EVERY way. Can't have that!

I wasn't going to post this anywhere because that would just be trolling.

But here we are.

I'm wondering why that would stop you *now*?
:hellokitty:
Hell, that would be something I'd use to troll OTHER Americans of the MAGA bent.

Author Ray Oldenburg coined the term "Third Place" for that kind of location in his book "The Great Good Places".

It's been a bit of a pet peeve of mine for a couple of years.

Here's a good video on the topic:

A giant Walmart is a great place to take a walk when it's -35C. Esp the two story ones with stairs! :)

Downtown Houston has something like that, albeit a bit smaller, and it's there to avoid the heat and humidity.

In hot climates, you'd want something like San Antonio's River Walk, with lots of shade. I'm not sure if the river itself would help with the humidity, though.

The tested and proven approach is to build cities like this:

Houston has bayous and walks along them, I used to work in a building right next to the jogging track on Buffalo Bayou. I still didn't go out when it was hot.

OK, I just used it on a video showing how to repair hotswap sockets and the summary was:

Repairing Lifted Hotswap Sockets on Mechanical Keyboards
This video provides a guide on how to repair lifted hotswap socket pads on mechanical keyboard PCBs, a common issue that can cause keys or entire rows/columns to stop functioning. It helps viewers decide whether to attempt the repair or replace the PCB.
Key Points:
  • Problem: Lifted hotswap socket pads can cause keys or entire sections of a mechanical keyboard to become unresponsive.
  • The video demonstrates the process of repairing these lifted pads.
  • Decision: The guide helps viewers assess whether repairing the socket is feasible or if replacing the PCB is a better option.
  • Links to Mode PCB Substrates and extra PCBs for Mode Keyboards are provided in the video description.
  • Recommended tools for the repair, such as a soldering iron kit, solder, and desoldering wick/tool, are also listed with links.
This doesn't include any details of the process, how to trace the keyboard matrix, how to set the broken socket back in place, or in fact anything that counts as a summary. It's mostly a rephrased version of the video description. There seems to be no content from the video itself. I rate this site as a complete fraud.
