Unless you've been hiding on the dark side of the moon, Apex Legends should by now ring a bell or more in your head.

In case you don't know this game: it is a free to play Battle Royale shooter created by Respawn Entertainment, which was founded by the people responsible for Call of Duty until 2010, and published by EA. It's located in the Titanfall universe, and adds some interesting new ideas to the genre, like only fighting in squad teams of three, different types of heroes (aka legends), very usable and easy ping system and much, much more. It is a direct competitor to mostly Fortnite and PUBG. Even people who don't like the usual BR games are having quite much fun in it.

The game was hinted maybe 1 1/2 weeks ago, two days after the hint it was released on PC, PS and Xbox to the surprise of everybody and BOOM went big. It's where the new hype train is right now; it gained already 25 million players within one week, and overtook Twitch by storm. The EA stock price, which has been on an all time low in October, skyrocketed because of it.

The most important thing is that the game is fun to play, and already very stable. It's like a breath of fresh air for the whole genre, and shows lot of promise.

So - has anybody here already given it a try?

If this game does anything for me, it confirms that I still don't like BR games. Each match I've played so far has been 15 to 20 minutes of hunting for boxes with stuff, a couple minutes of looking for someone to use that stuff on, and 30 seconds spent in a 1v4 of inevitable doom. (-_-)

It's pretty. It's smooth. It has all kinds of control and comms options. But it overextends my limited mental capacity. I'd say it's a great game that I'd prefer not to play. (>_<)

i've played for a few hours now and i've managed to get 1 kill so far! awesome! Running around and gun collecting only to die isn't my favorite past time.

i probably won't play it too much with the other games around the corner but it's free.

you have unique abilities per character and can unlock character cosmetics similar to overwatch. Even if you die your teammate and pick up your banner and go to respawn device and bring you back. Jumping off the ship is locked to the jump master so you don't have to worry about falling away from your teammate and if you want to go solo just press a button and it will let you fly away.

no vehicles but there are points you can climb a rope to a bouy in the sky and jetpack in any direction for a quick getaway. When you are down and bleeding and have a shield device can use it to prevent imminent death alittle longer while your teams try to take down the attacker. you can also preform a finishing move to make sure they can't come back.

As far as i can tell it's BR with a Team focus and a few extra gimmicks. it's more entertaining then other BRs. EA needed this break. Good for Respawn team! Stocks are up, some people are even looking at Titan fall 2. EA will milk the hell out of it.

The funny thing for me is that it just popped out of the blue with no warning before, while EA announced in the past several BR titles which are still in the pipeline as "hope to gain some marketshare", and so far the monetization options seem to be surprisingly ungreedy and fair for an EA game. Heck, they are even disclosing the loot probability of loot boxes voluntarily, and you clearly can play in a good way without.

EA definitely pulled a Beyonce and dropped the game with no warning, hype, no early access or beta naming - just a pure, finished game. It's out of character for them - and hopefully a sign of things to come (I doubt it, but you never know, I'm an optimist).

Well maybe the main reason in that case is that they are just acting as the publisher of the game - but not the developer. The developer, Respawn Entertainment LLC., belongs to EA, but with quite some freedoms it seems and was founded by the makers of the CoD series until 2010, which many do consider the golden age/good CoDs.
