Probably an unpopular opinion: But climate change doesn't hurt the north like it hurts the south. A milder winter wouldn't be so bad. I should probably just stop there, though. Speculating about the future will probably just invoke an onslaught of primal rage directed at me, accusations of witchcraft, and who knows what else.In 100 years climate change will knock us back to the bronze age level of technology -IF we're lucky.
That's the best outcome, the likely outcome is that we'll be extinct
It's not controversial to say it will hit some regions very differently than others. But the global economy is sure to suffer since many regions will suffer a lot and some will go under water.Probably an unpopular opinion: But climate change doesn't hurt the north like it hurts the south. Your first statement was fine. The follow up portion here is kind of just asking for trouble.Speculating about the future will probably just invoke an onslaught of primal rage directed at me, accusations of witchcraft, and who knows what else.
Every state has their own trade-offs. California is certainly no exception. Better at a few things, worse at others. Special interests often find a way to serve themselves at everyone else's expense no matter where we live.No worries. I can relate -if a lot of things were different for me I'd go back to Washington. The corruption and circle-jerk of incompetence year after year in this state is ..disheartening.![]()
Then there was really no need to whine about it to start with.Oh, I picked that up from context, no need to spell it out.
See. I knew when you started saying mean things about Alaska that there was something wrong with you. You've probably never even been there. It's very pretty place, probably the prettiest place in America, and you can get mauled by a moose or a polar bear or even a regular bear. It's really great. Even in the middle of the day, a large animal can just walk out of the woods. Winter is brutal, but it's still pretty, and the wilderness is largely untouched throughout large areas. There are even purple mountains. Mosquitos and spiders are bigger than they should be and everybody carries a gun (even the liberals, although often in smaller calibers, cause you know, 'Guns kill people' and stuff). And yes, I'm trolling you and your One-Fingered Salute at this point, although I think I am doing so rather nicely. Where are you from? California? Yes? Is it still on fire? Are the millionaire elite Hollyweird people okej? Does Los Angeles still boost the largest wealth gap in the entire existence of humanity? What about that whole thing where nobody can afford to live within 100 miles of Silicon Valley, because it costs over 3000 USD per month to rent a closet with a hole in the floor to piss in? What makes California so great and so special that makes you hate Alaska and think you are entitled to preach your own bigotry and prejudice? A One-Fingered Salute? To Alaska? Surely, you realize that the joke is on you? Alaska is a beautiful and wonderful place. An enthusiastic One-Fingered Salute, to you and "The Uppity One" state.
To be honest it's not even the cold, it's the darkness that makes the winters so brutal. It's not controversial to say it will hit some regions very differently than others. But the global economy is sure to suffer since many regions will suffer a lot and some will go under water.
Ya, probably. Look I had a dream, and in this dream, I saw several of the other forum users from here, and they each signed a contract with a horned man and went to a fancy party with him and apparently had a really fun time. However, I did not sign this contract or go to the party and request to not get burned at the stake. If they tell you a different story, it's not true, because of reasons.Your first statement was fine. The follow up portion here is kind of just asking for trouble.
I meant the part about you 'not caring' what I thought while you dismissively compared THE REST OF THE US to the UK, exempting your special state as if it doesn't also have the same political problems as the rest of the nation you're part of. Ya'll voted for Trump after all. So I'm as mad at your state as much as I am any other red state. If you take offense at that.... well, to use your words "I don't care". Get over it.Then there was really no need to whine about it to start with.
I'm sure it's beautiful. But your Moose, Bears, other large animals, snow, mountains, mosquitos, and spiders, DON'T VOTE.See. I knew when you started saying mean things about Alaska that there was something wrong with you. You've probably never even been there. It's very pretty place, probably the prettiest place in America, and you can get mauled by a moose or a polar bear or even a regular bear. It's really great. There's a lot of people still very much not okay.Where are you from? California? Yes? Is it still on fire? Are the millionaire elite Hollyweird people okej?
Still? Measured by what? The Gini Index? Let's see...Does Los Angeles still boost the largest wealth gap in the entire existence of humanity?
Well, despite the rare quakes, the traffic, the unhoused, the wildfires, the cost of living.... it's still a -very- nice place to live. There are less safe places to live. We don't get the absolute extremes of winter or summer. Santa Anna winds are usually the worst, which generally just means 'warmer & windy' but still very endurable... unless a wildfire breaks out. What about that whole thing where nobody can afford to live within 100 miles of Silicon Valley, because it costs over 3000 USD per month to rent a closet with a hole in the floor to piss in? I stand by my original assessment. What a shit show. (I mean this thread.)
Hey! Have a screwdriver too!
I get extra ranty when I'm procrastinating on housework. I have a repair person coming by in the morning and I should make at least a token effort. (there's still stuff not put away from my last trip and a layer of ash, lint, dust on every flat unused surface, not to mention a few coffee cups that have stacked up, seriously like 10 minutes of effort... and yet... Someone's Wrong on the Internet! I Must Engage!)
You're not my professor.Just don't post bumb shit when I have a lot of grading.
Or ................... *pointlessly excessive dramatic pause with raised eyebrow* ........ is he? *music cue*You're not my professor.
ugghh.... but that's boooorrriiinnggg. Not so hard to act like a mature adult, now is it?
There's a time and place to be a bit more unhinged and volatile in your responses. When tools are present - use them

I'm not going to address this nicely if you are going to yell about it. I didn't vote for Trump.I meant the part about you 'not caring' what I thought while you dismissively compared THE REST OF THE US
Neither do I, as I consider the system broken and refuse to directly take part out of protest.I'm sure it's beautiful. But your Moose, Bears, other large animals, snow, mountains, mosquitos, and spiders, DON'T VOTE.
Okej. So the climate is fucked up.There's a lot of people still very much not okay.
Fire season doesn't end anymore down here, thanks to climate change.
I've been here 30 years... and I'm freaking terrified. This is -normally- a desert climate, we get brief little monsoons some winters that turns the state turns green for a couple of weeks. Then goes back to being 'Golden Brown' full of dead dry grass covered hills. Every 4-6 years we'd get a 'wet year' and it would stay green until june/july before everything dried up again and wildfires would be worse the next year.
NOW, we're at the end of the state being Green and Growing for FOUR YEARS IN A ROW.
This has nothing to do with Alaska or even Trump. This is all at the local level and at the state level of government. The fed is not responsible for any of this, regardless of which party controls what. It's just fucked up. I've been to a desert before. Just it never turned green. Flash-flooding could happen out of nowhere but their was no fires. Too far from the ocean. Ya, okej, I agree the California desert sounds rough as fuck. There's now an apocalyptic amount of fuel on the ground drying out ready to burn. No amount of fire hydrant pressure or 'raking the forest floors' is going to stop 100 mile an hour hot dry winds from knocking down trees, power lines, exploding transformers. And then there's those random sickos trying to -start- fires on top of it as well.
By this time next year, it might be my neighborhood that can't be saved. Who knows.
You have the Hollywood elite on one side of the road and homeless people on the other. It doesn't have to make an official top ten list of meet your statistical criteria. It's clear and visible to the rest of us.Still? Measured by what? The Gini Index? Let's see...
States/territories: Puerto Rico, New York, D.C., Connecticut, Louisiana and Mississippi all come out way ahead of California.
Cities: San Juan, Atlanta, Miami, New Orleans, NYC, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Tampa and Chicago are the top ten cities with largest income inequality gaps... none of California's cities made the top ten list.
I would never go there. Cities, like Los Angeles, look like Hell on Earth.Well, despite the rare quakes, the traffic, the unhoused, the wildfires, the cost of living.... it's still a -very- nice place to live. There are less safe places to live. We don't get the absolute extremes of winter or summer. Santa Anna winds are usually the worst, which generally just means 'warmer & windy' but still very endurable... unless a wildfire breaks out.
Rightwingers jeer and laugh that there's a mass exodus going on and people are leaving California in droves. Great! Leave! Our population is STILL going up anyway. Our economy is strong. There's 15 construction projects going up within easy walking distance of my house... people -want- to be here. Food, culture, climate, year round outdoor comfort, job opportunities, social communities of all types, an abundance international offerings from food, culture, religion... no matter what field someone is in, they can probably find a job in that field here.
I've addressed this. I did not. Moreover it is idiotic to say fuck this place because they did not vote for the same person I did.And why am I mad at your state? Again. Ya'll voted for Trump.
I believe both sides are equally stupid and that the entire system is broken. California constantly tries to make rules for other states to follow . . . some of us don't care for it or like that very much . . . at all. I'm not going to have a conversation with you about the rest of this stuff, because it's sort of a straw-man argument. I mean, I get that that's why you hate Trump. But it's sort of stupid if you care about all of those things but view the people who voted differently, or in my case choose not to vote, as less then human, and then lump all of the people in those states into a hate blender. This is because it creates a paradox where what aligns with your viewpoint must be championed and what does not must be demonized due sole to a political angle. The guy whose army of MAGA lackies that will likely find a way to screw California and Californians over in more ways than we can imagine. So thanks for that. Women forced to carry their rapist relative's child to term, women dying unnecessarily to entopic issues, transgender kids and adults fearing for their very lives, married or soon to be married gays and lesbians who can tell that their very right to BE married is about to be under attack AGAIN.
Yes, surely democracy is under an extreme and dire threat because of the results of a democratic election. It's this type of one-sided bias that I'm sick of. Both sides are pushing a poisoned narrative full of hate in my opinion. It's the reason why I don't vote. And it's the reason I seldom enter into threads that are primarily just politically motivated hatred. I would have argued that Sweden had no right to tell Australia what it's social media companies----if it has/had any---- could do same as I dislike the British trying to tell the American companies what to do. It did not seem like an overly political argument to voice a concern a free speech at first, though. Turns out I was wrong. But it happens. Oh, well.So yeah... any state that supported that feckless moron and his MAGA insanity... they can all go rot. The sooner they realize their mistake hopefully the sooner they can do something about it in the midterms, assuming we still have something left of our democracy by then.
